Ok, I am a rookie here on this site. Been a car/truck wrencher for 40+ years, and bought my first seadoo---96 GTX. It ran, but gas gauge not working, neither the speedometer. It still had grey fuel lines, so thats where I started. Tried to operate on the fuel sending unit, but no F1 fuse on this one, so purchased a new sending unit, and replaced all the fuel lines, and oil lines with a new inline oil filter. I cleaned the fuel switch, and put a new fuel filter on it. It war ok, but everyone on this site says to clean the carbs out, so I suppose that will be next on the list. I did put a new sealed battery in it, and cleaned the rave valves. I suppose the "top" printed on the rave valve means towards the carbs? thats how they came out. Cleaned the coil contacts on the cables, and solenoid eyelets. New plugs, and greased the zerc on the drive shaft. Any other suggestions before I take it out would be appreciated, as this seems like a great site for information.

Hi and welcome to the SeaDoo forum. It sound like you have everything pretty much covered. You probably still need to go through the carbs and at the minimum clean the carb. filters.

Like Capt. Ron says, "if anythings gonna happen it's gonna happen out there".

Thanks, lou for the welcome. I will remove the carbs to clean them out, just to be safe. I am there anyway with the air box removed to put the new lines on. Fuel gauge does work now also. Any thoughts on why the speedo does not work? Where is that paddle wheel located and the sensor located? Also, i was told that my 96 is supposed to chirp when the lanyard is on? thank you, al

Welcome aboard, I am new here also and have already decided this is the place to be. I have a 95 and a 96 GTX, yes the 96 chirps when you hook up the lanyard. I grew up on a farm, been wrenchin since I was big enough to hold a wrench, started making a living wrenchin in 1967, not wrenchin today but still working in the field for a truck dealership. There are some excellent posts here on carbs, both rebuild and tuning/Synchronization, GREAT information. Find them, study them before you take yours down, you will learn a lot about the operation of these carbs, they are different from automotive. Anyway, welcome to the SeeDoo forum, it is a great place to be. I am on several boat forums, some good some not so good, so I think I am qualified to say this is a good place to be. Go start a thread in the 2 stroke forum with your questions, or search first and get the answers, then if something is not quite clear, ask your questions.

Welcome to the forum Big Al(or is it Bi Gal?). As Lou said, you pretty much covered everything in the hull. In regards to the wheel for the speedo, it is in the ride plate near the jet pump. While speaking of the jet pump, it would probably be a good idea to change the oil in the pump. One final thing you may want to do is a compression test. 135 or more you're okay. 150 is ideal.

Welcome to the forum.

I have the same ski and it chirps twice when attaching the lanyard.
Clean/rebuild the carbs and also the little filter inside. ( I sent mine to Dr Honda) I would add an in-line fuel filter too....a Fram G2 works well.
Make sure you are using a full synthetic oil. (BRP, Quicksilver, or Amsoil works well)
If the tiny oil lines from the pump to the cylinders are still painted white then you may want to replace them before they crack. 3/32 Tygon lines.

Where do you ride in Michigan?.... (see below for 2 threads you may to add your name to)

Thanks el toro. I will look into changing the oil in the pump. What type of oil and brand name is recommended in it, and how much does it hold? I will also try and find out the speedo issue. I did get the fuel gauge working with the new sending unit, and all the hoses changed, so good to go there. This weekend or next I will remove the carbs and clean them out also. Oh, it is Big al, thank you for your imput, as it appreciated on this end for sure.
