I just picked up a 98 speedster. It was sitting in the water for most of last year, a very nasty lake. When pulled out it did get 2 brand new SBT premium motors, It seems like it need 1 new wear ring due to a cavitation problem out of one motor. It looks like that is not a big job. It does however need all new seats and a good buffing. Is there anything else I should know about theses things? I am in now way new to the boating world or PWC world but am new to the jetboat world. These things seem to be a ton of fun...

Thanks for any advise you guys have.

Hi ... excellent choice in boat!! Seats are going to be hard to find if you want OEM ones.

Excellent choice. I think it is the best smaller sea doo boat but i am kind biased. How bad are your seats? Is it just the vinyl cover or is the foam bad? If it is just the vinyl, they can be recovered. There is a member here who has a business making seat covers. He owns seadooupholstery.com He doesnt have these seats listed, but recently another member got seats redone for the speedster, so i know he can do them. Contact him if they just need recovered.

If you know it has a cavitation issue and the boat sat in water that long, I would spend the money for pump rebuild kits for both pumps and then throw in new wear rings and refurb the impellers. That with 2 new engines and you should be having fun for a long time. Also, check the oil injection to make sure it is working good. Change the oil filters and check the oil lines to make sure they arent split or leaking.

Thanks guys... I will tak a pic of the seats and see what you guys think. I think all and all I did not do bad, I traded my wifes dirtbike and mine for it. I can no longer ride a dirtbike due to a injury. I was up late last night reading a ton on this board. You guys are good people. I have a ton of time on my hands due to my injury that seemed small when it happened but I will be out of work for about 6 months. So I may try to redo if I can the seats myself mainly due to low funds, eventhough I like to help members of any group that I am apart of.

Here are my seat pics. They are in BAD shape. odd that they have no base even though they sit on a solid surface, but that is my opinion. I do whish it had the origional trailer, the origional one had a tree fall on it so he got this capri one to replace it. It is heavier i think.

I have another question guys, I have a full bottle of Polaris Gold 2 cycle oil from one of my skiis I had. Is this good oil to use in a sea doo? I have read in some threads to use a particular oil for the gas. I hate that I have this very expensive 2 cycle gallon of oil if I can not use it.

Your running new motors. The requirement for our 2 strokes is that the oil be a non NMMA, non TCW-3, low ash oil. I personally use Quicksilver, 2 cycle oil. This is from Mercury, but it meets our requirments. Be careful though, they do make the TCW-3 oils too. I buy it by the gallon at Walmart. If you go that route, read the back of the bottle. It will say it meets Seadoo requirements. Also, which ever oil you DO decide to use, always use that same type. Don't go from one maker to another. Many manafacturers add different detergents/additives to their oils, so you want the motors to wear in on one type.

So what if I do not know what is in it already? It is about half way full...

Those seats look rough but the foam all looks intact. I think you could get away with recovering them. There really isnt much alternative. They are VERY hard to find. The boat looks like it needs a lot of TLC, but if it is mechanically good, i wouldnt worry. It should clean up nicely. The trailer actually looks really close to the original, so i wouldnt worry about that either.

As far as oil, I agree with snipe, I use the Quicksilver PWC. I'm not sure on the specs of the Polaris oil. See if you can find the specs on it and if it is an API TC low ash oil, you can use it.

Those seats look about like mine did before they were recovered. I was supposed to post pixs of them awhile back but havent done it yet. They turned out very nice!

So when you recovered them did you do it or someone else? Do you remove the old cover and if so how seems it is glued very well. I have helped recover car seats but never boat or anything glued down.

And yes it need a GOOD cleaning and buffing. But that is going to have to wait till my injured are is better. Right now I can only lift les than 2lbs with my left arm and I am left handed. So no way can I use a buffing wheel to clean the hull well.

Just got to say you guys know your stuff and all these threads I have been reading in the how to and other areas really help a ton.

Keith @ seadooupholstery.com should be able to help you. I sent mine to him as they were, so he could figure out what he needed to do with the foam since the hide was glued on like yours. He also recovered the armrest's as well. His contact email & number are on his web site. I'll try & post some pix up for you over the weekend of how they turned out.

I knew there was someone with a 98 or 99 that had seats done by Keith...I been waiting on those pics for a while. :toetap05:

Do you have a pic to show how your seats turned out?

Insteed of a new thread I was just going to add to this one. Question is there anything or way to make sure the oil pump is mixing correctly? Also does anyone recomend another oil besides quicksilver, my local walmart only carries one type NOT the type you guys said to use.

I mark the tank each outing with a piece of tape and then check it when I get home to see if the oil level went down. Its usually pretty obvious. I run at full throttle a lot and usually it uses about a gallon per tank of gas. There are several other brands. another option is Mystick JT-4. You can find it at some tractor supply type stores. If you have an academy sports store around, they sell it. The good thing is that its only 20 bucks a gallon. You can order it directly from the company and they ship it for like 32 bucks a gallon after shipping.
