Wats up guys and gals. I just joined to get some help answering a question. I have had bass boats for years and worked at a boat dealership before also. I am looking at buying a 2000 gti from a friend at a very good price however he says something about an intake leaking water and needing bolts or something like that...A problem which he said he has had fixed before. I know jack crap about a sea doo, but I am fairly mechanically inclined. I did a search and couldn't find out anything that would help. Could someone here tell me WTH he could be talking about and how hard it may be for a DIY fix. Thanks in advance!

There isn't any cooling water in the intake... so, I don't know where the water would be coming from.

If the price is good, and the ski runs... buy it, and we will try to figure out what's wrong with it.

The tuned pipe has four welded caps where the factory accessed the interior
water coils. These welds rot internally, and eventually rot thru and leak into the compartment. The fix is grind them out and re-Tig weld to seal them.
We have seen leaking from many areas from drive bearings, cracked hulls,
turf rivets Ect. Tony has the greatest idea.....put her in the water and open the seat, crank her up at the launch and watch for leaks!

Sounds like he may be describing the intake grate bolts have ripped out. If they have its not a fun project...most likely the holes in the pump shoe are effed up and the shoe has to be replaced to do it right.

Thanks for the info guys...I'm going to get it wed and going to have him show me what is wrong and then see what it will cost to fix it. I will let you know as I have more questions

He sent me pics and i did some searching around...The head pipe bolts seem to be backing out or breaking and causing it to leak right there...He said he had them fixed one time and the last time he used the ski, they had vibrated loose or come loose somehow...How big of a problem could this be...Doesn't seem like much of one to me? Could someone have forgotten to use loctite on them when they fixed them before?

Yup thats the pipe he is talking about...and those bolts were bumped up a size around that year to combat it. The gasket is prob junk too. I would plan on just replacing the bolts and the gasket with some fresh ones, and use plenty of Loctite.

It will take about an hour or so and $30 in bolts/gaskets.

It could also be the plugs in the exhaust...its a welded "bung" like others have said. I have heard of people using JB weld and it lasting for years...but the best way is to get it out and have it welded. The pipe is quite a biatch to get out though.

Is this a big problem??? What would cause them to keep backing out? I think i can get this doo for around 1K...He bought it brand new and has always taken care of it! May just need a new starter and batt too.

maybe motor not aligned correctly, but if he's O.O., then ask if motors been out, or a motor mount or 2 are broken. Grab ahold the pipe, and lift up at all corners. Motor should'nt come up.

The engine has never been out and no major problems other than having these bolts replaced one time before a while back. It is a one owner and has beEn taken care of and serviced properly. Are these things much trouble if you can read things like on this forum (I am a member of a forum for every toy and vehicle I have) and can turn a wrench pretty good?

not sure what your say'n, but if asking if they're hard to work on, then no, just time, like anything else.

Grab ahold of the exhaust, and pull up on it, to verify that no mounts are broke or motor loose from the engine cradle
