Need advice on CL purchase 95-96 XP

seadoosource lists the 787 with a bore/stroke of 82 x 74mm, for a total displacement of 781.6cc, and the 787x at 82.25 x 74mm for a total displacement of 786cc. my guess would be that the reason for the change for 96 would have been to get under the 785 class displacement limit, but that's really just a WAG.

i agree with some of the posters above, sure seems like a hell of a lot more than 500 of those running around.
i've seen QUITE a FEW ! and i'm just some hillbilly in florida, and to boot, I have one in my ride group, it will hit 69, but he can't hit 70 even with the current in his favor.
my guess is there are more than 500 just because i've seen so many, i'm thinking i've seen 10 of them for sale just this past 8 months, thats way too high of a number for something so "rare"

Thanks for the info guys. Well it definitely had the 787x as some point then, I found a spot around the ride plate today that was the original pink, question is, did the guy replace it. I will check the mag logo when I get a chance. I did notice the mag house is white and the rest of the motor is painted silver...so maybe he did replace it. So from what you guys are saying, if the bore is the only difference, it wouldn't be worth tracking one down another 787X if there isn't one in it right? Most likely I will have to bore the cylinders anyways.

Spim, 69 mph :o, is his stock? and I'm right there with you with the hillbilly thing, nothing wrong with that haha.

Well as you can see both cylinders are bored 1mm over to the max, looks like I will be/am in the market for some new cylinders. Shame it looks like the pistons were not to bad and the PTO side cylinder was in pretty nice shape before rust. PO took the spark plugs out and i'm guessing due to sitting 7 years condensation/moisture got em. The mag side cylinder has some vertical scoring, but neither it or the piston looks terrible, I dont know if that cylinder lost compression or what. Also the mag side cylinder has 1X stamped on it, just curious if that meant anything or just a random cast number, the 787 in my GTX has 1G in that spot.

I gotta ask, just for my own curiosity, do these motors have harminic balancers? I've not looked really closely at mine, but the ones that I've seen pics of, I don;t remember seeing anything that looked like one.

Well, I am no expert at these motors so don't quote me, and there are others on here that could tell you all about this. But these motors do not have a harmonic balancer, they have counter balance shafts which are on the interior of the motor. I believe the guy selling this ski is referring to the "harmonic balancer" he is talking about the PTO which the drive shaft goes into that is needing replaced?

I think you could legitimately call it a harmonic balancer. The weight them differently for different engine models to minimize vibration and prolong crank bearing life.

Just in case y'all are interested here's a couple of pictures of my 95XP 800 it's pretty much bone stock except for a new SBT engine.

I think this will be my winter project, these are the before pictures.

"Project"? That thing looks finished Lou. If you want "go fast" parts for it then I'll hook you up. (the price is only one date with Sheridan)

I bought it in the spring when prices were high, it had 10 hours on a SBT premium engine with one year left on the warranty. I paid $1500.00.

Another difference between the 95 and 96XP the 95 has the older style bearing sleeve not the carbon seal.

Hey Matt,

Yep it is pretty much done, I need to do something with the handlebar cover, clean it up a bit. I'm still looking for a winter project, I'm sorta thinking about another 96XP or possibly an early 4-tek GTI.

How about a date with one of Sheridan's sisters?

Nice lou, looks like its already in pretty good shape. Are you going to keep it original and stock? you will have to keep us updated. This one is definitely my winter project, I have started ordering a few parts for it. I plan to document with a lot of pics eventually start a resto thread on it when its close to finished.

These are kinda rare, so I'm going to leave it stock. I will admit when I first got it I thought about painting the hull. The half pink hull looks almost gay, but I decided against it. I will probably do some mods. if I find another 96XP.

Lou

Yea I can't blame you there. Honestly I am not big on the pink either, but oddly enough I think the more I look at these I like the graphics. Don't get me wrong I do like the two tone yellow and black on mine because I know I can do a lot more with it as far as colors go, but I kinda wish mine was still original on the exterior.
