My Poppy Cover……. How long did yours last?

I don’t know what the life expectancy of these boat covers should be but mine lasted less than 6 years.

I first bought and started using it on my 1996 Speedster in June 2020. It saw ND/MN summers (5-6) months tops, ND/MN winters (6 months), rain, snow, ice, sun, etc. It was stored indoors for one of those winters. Then I moved down to FL in 2023, which was a 2000 mile road trip with the boat cover on. Boat was stored indoors for about 10 months while getting settled. Has been parked/used in the FL sun and rain for the past 2 years. So it’s been in a lot of extreme weather.

May 2025 I noticed a tear around one of the plastic parts that hooks onto the cleats while reinstalling the cover after using the boat for a day. Terri at Poppy sent me a patch to have sewn on. But upon further inspection, every part of the cover that was touching the straps, support poles, throttles, etc, was awfully thin to where you could see daylight through. Today when I woke up I was very sad that the cover has completely failed.

Realistically the cover was used outdoors for about 4.5 years. It did work very very well until it started disintegrating and was one of my favorite purchases for this boat. Just sharing my experience in case someone else is looking for reviews or what to expect.

In those conditions I would say about 5 years would be expected.
If you really want long life you would need a custom cover out of genuine Sunbrella fabric.
