Who all has an MT2 Monster tower ? I installed mine myself and it is working quite well. I used it an entire season and I have no spider cracks so I guess I did a good install.

Got my Monster wakeboard racks today 2 for $200 used but mint. What a deal. Gotta love Kijiji !

Just wondering what other people think of this particular tower

I just cut a piece of plywood (5/8" I believe) They say you are suppose to use marine plywood that is wrapped in fibreglass I believe but I chose to just use plywood. So far so good. It helps spread the weight/pressue out over your hull. Not a single spider crack on any of the 4 points.

Does this tower fold down? I store my boat on a lift, and in the raised position, I'm not sure how much clearance I would have. Also, can you still use the cover?

Never mind, I just looked it up and I see that it's collapsible. Looks sweet. I am definitely going to look into this.

i didnt use any extra reinforcement at all and no spiders at all. just had to cut a couple holes behind the front back rests to tighten the bolts.

Backer board?...

Rex, I'd put a backer board behind your mounts, at least on the front. You may not have any spider cracks now but as time goes on, they will probably develop....Just as Wayne says, it's for displacing the weight over a larger area.

With the heavy movement of the boat transferring the pitch and roll to the tower, pulling someone who is using a board aggresively, I think you'll see a shorter life span of the fiberglass. Fiberglass can get weak over time.

As for usin no marine grade plywood or wrapped and sealed in plastic, the humidity will eventually get to your wood. If you sealed the bolts running through the fiberglass so that no water can run down into the holes, it may last longer. But open, non treated grade wood doesn't last as long on the water as it does on land. I'd check the wood condition in a couple years.

By the way the hull is curved where the front mounts are I don't think I'd be able to put a very big piece of wood behind them anyways.
Monster says you only need to reenforce if your fiberglass where you put the mounts is less than 3/8"
