Mag side low comp 60 PSI

Well, after my 99 SPX stalling out on me on the water I dreaded what may be the cause... I have since rebuilt the carbs, replaced the fuel lines, replaced the starter and replaced the starter relay along with charged my battery only to find out the front cyl has low compression of about 60psi where the rear has just about 150psi. (I know, the carb rebuild and lines were to my benefit prior to knowing this information)

I guess where I'm at now is what are the next steps? Do I need to pull the motor from the hull to dissassemble the top end and see if I can locate the problem?
Best case I'm rebuilding the top end, worst case.....??
I have now learned electrical should ALWAYS be OEM components, is there aftermarket avail and trusted for doing the internals of he engine?

In Ontario, Canada, should there be somewhere I should start looking for parts?

All help is always appreciated! Thanks in advance

What ski are u talking about? 720 top is easy in the ski. 800 a little tougher. Pull the head and have a look.

I would pull the motor if u haven’t done a topend in the ski on the 800. Not much room to work in that hull.

How many hours on the engine? If its around 200 the crank won’t survive a new top end.

Ok is it an original crank? do the cases look like they were split?

You can do a top end in the hull but it is a pain the ass. Besides the room you don't have , You also have to keep the debris from falling into the engine. There are hidden compartments between the cylinders and base that let loose all the sand and salt right into the engine when you lift the cylinder and the base gasket breaks.

Also the new top end will come with new bearings but when you take the old ones out you will likely find 38 little bearings falling down into the crank case. Its all bad really. I can do it. But I opt to take the engine out if I can. Its actually faster and you can check so manny more things.

Also it lets you find out why that cylinder blew.

Doesnt look like it was split before.

thanks for the tips on taking it out of the hull

lol. You're in my hood then.

ORPS in Newmarket for WSM parts
St Onge in Barrie for OEM, or Snow city cycle in scarborough has free shipping on orders over $99.

I bought a 4L jug of XPS synthetic from St Onge, they'll refill it for less from their bulk drum. They also told me you can take in your own container (think jerry can). I think it was $45 per 4L.

On my latest order purchase from snow cycle they had a hell of a time getting in the rubber bushings for my exhaust and after two weeks i told them to refund me. So it's probably best to ask them part availability before you order.

online i've used OSD for OE stuff that local dealers told me was discontinued, and ordered other aftermarket stuff from bay area powersports.

I'm in Keswick to be specific... Yeah, I was looking into ORPS, had a bit of a bad experience with them recently but theyre local and prices are fair...

Thanks for the tips on this stuff!

Cool, my sister in law is in Keswick. I'm in New Tecumseth.

Only thing i don't like about ORPS is the return policy on anything electrical. Other than that they've had everything I've needed when i needed it. Can't complain really.

I also forgot about winners circle in Scarborough, little hole in the wall place you'd drive by if you didn't know it was there. Guy is a little pricier but he has tons of stuff and he's a mikuni dealer, everything is always in stock. genuine rebuild kits are still cheaper online than this guy but if you need something ASAP, he's got it.

Winnercirclecanada is pretty local to you guys too. It's all i order from these days.
Probably put 10 grand through them this year lol

You can also get parts and engines there: http://www.cvtech-aab.com/en/ (located in Quebec province). I got an engine from them and it has been running flawlessly since 2015.

Benji.

Well sort of. He's been so busy that they have no engines what so ever. Everything is a send and rebuild policy.
I guess this is becoming more popular :)

Hi-tech powersports in moncton is another favorite of mine.
