Is Sea-Doo XP-S grease really necessary? Changing the oil in the oil pump?

I just purchased my first jet ski, a 1994 GTX in like-new condition. I am really excited about it and can't wait to ride it this weekend. I have a couple newbie questions. Is really necessary to use the SeaDoo grease to lube the flywheel? Does anyone out there use plain old all purpose grease? And as far as the oil pump- is that something that really needs to be done? I see SeaDoo makes jet pump oil. Not sure if this is something that really needs to be done or somewhat of a waste of time. Thanks in advance, hope everyone out there has a great holiday weekend.

Hi, and welcome to the SeaDoo Forum. You'll find a lot of friendly knowledgeable people here.

You can use a synthetic waterproof grease for the flywheel to drive shaft fitting.

The pump oil is GL5 synthetic 75-90w, I use Mobile 1, synthetic. Needs to be done once a year according to use, I do mine twice.

Would someone expand on this please...

I bought a 2009 and 2010 Seadoo last season. Took it to the dealer at the end of the season for the 10 hr check as well as change the oil and winterize them for the winter season.

Please explain what you are talking about as I am not following you.

Is this something the dealer does when they do the oil change?

It is the oil inside of the jet pump cone. It is very simple to do and I'm a complete rookie. I just followed a youtube video I saw and had it done in about 20 minutes.

You have 4 stroke skis, and they use different fluids than the 2 stroke, you need to post this on the 4 stroke forum.

Sorry, I just noticed this is the 4 stroke forum, by bad. Somehow this got shifted from 4 stroke to 2 stroke. I guess y'all need to disregard this thread, probably restart it.

I just changed the oil in my jet pump. It was very simple to do. I also watched a you tube video to learn what to do. One word of advice- watch it when torqing down the three bolts used to connect the cone. I wrenched down too hard and ended up crushing up the aluminum a little bit on all three. Didn't realize it till after the damage was done. Althought the oil looked like it was just changed (I just bought the jet ski used) I am glad I changed it again. The o-ring was split. Luckily I have a bunch of o-rings sitting around in my plumbing toolbox. Good luck.
