Injection or premix

This past weekend my 95xp started stalling.I felt around under the carbs(was feeling for LS screws)and found the cable for the oil injection had come off of the carb linkage.I read on another post that if this happens the oil pump will pump oil at full volume(could explain the stalling).I hooked it back up and it seamed to start OK,I added oil to the gas just in case. Now I don't trust the injection system and would like to convert to premix. Can I just disconnect the cable and run like that or do I need to take it all apart and block everything.off.Seems kind of complicated to do.Wouldn't gravity from the oil tank keep the pump lubricated and I just plug the lines into the manifold.

Personally if it was my ski I would keep the oil injection, however it's your ski. What you need to do is remove the carburetors. Remove the rotary valve cover, and either remove the oil pump nylon gear, you can either leave the oil pump on the cover or remove it and use a block off plate. Remove the two small injector lines and cap off the nipples. Replace the rotary valve cover and the carburetors.

Plug or pinch off the main supply line to the oil pump. Leave the feed and the return line to the rotary valve connected, and at least 1/4 tank.

Thanks for the info.If it's true that if the cable on the carbs lets go that I will be getting too much oil instead of not enough I guess I shoudn't be too worried about it.

The pump is designed to go to full open in the event the cable breaks, so you would be running approximately 40:1 at all times, the same as you would be running if you go to premix.

After this happened I pulled the plugs and they were both dry with a bit of carbon on them.Wouldn't they have oil on them running 40:1 at idle.

i premix my xp's at 40 to 1,n the plugs look the same as the gti with oil injected,,i wish they were all injected,,its gets expensive at 40 to 1

It's a 2-stroke. The plugs will always be dark, when running right. They run on the rich side... and the oil will eventually foul the plugs. Now... if you said the plugs were new, and only had 20 minutes running... and they were fouled... then there is an issue.

But... as the other guys are saying... the system runs about 40:1 at full throttle. At idle... it's around 75:1. (that really will cut the smoke at idle) Also... it will use less oil at part throttle settings. (saving you money)

Seadoo oil injection systems are very reliable, as long as they get serviced once in a while. Most people who have issues have NEVER serviced the system, and act surprised when a +15 year old system fails. Not to mention... it's never the pump that gives out. It's always a plugged filter, or broken hose.

Finally... since every Rotax engine (other than the 951) has a rotary valve... and you will have to leave the tank in the hull... and hooked to the engine... there is no benefit of going pre-mix.

I guess I'll keep the injection and I'll be running double oil until this tank of gas is burned off.I imagine I have to remove the carbs again to get at those small oil lines. After the new lines and filter have been installed can I just pressurize the oil tank to get all the lines full again.
