Gray fuel lines

Assuming that the fuel lines have been replaced on my 98 GS because they look fairly new. And assuming the dealer still uses gray fuel lines. Is there a date code or run number stamped on the lines that would indicate if they've been replaced at a point? Or is there an obvious difference between old & new (the lining in my hose is black and looks good)?

As far as I know, someone correct me if I'm wrong, if the fuel lines are grey they are NOT ethanol safe, the newer approved USCG are ethanol safe are blue in color.

I know MotionPro makes some fuel hose that is black on the inside with a gray cover. It is good fuel hose and they are big in the motorcycle world. If it is the MotionPro hose you should be good to go. And if the work was done at a motorcycle shop that is probably what they used. As long as it isn't gray with a clear liner and the words, "TEMPO" on it you should be good to go too.

My hose says TEMPO on it and I'm having the "Bogs down at high RPMs" problem - so I'll start there.
 
To confirm, lines, MAJOR carb cleaning including internal plastic filters, and fuel selector switch. Kind of a PITA job but it must be done.

Did they make a TEMPO fuel hose without issues or are they all junk? (Only the hoses with the clear liner?) And are the carburetor diaphragm(s) normally an issue?

I asked similar questions when i re-did my 01 GS and the consensus seemed to be that if it says Tempo it is bad. If you pull the lines from the carb and see green good then you know you have the bad lines. You can also generally tell if you have the original Oeticker(spelling?) clamps on the hoses instead of a screwed type of hose clamp. The issue with the carb is that the green goo plugs up the carbs internal fuel filter and then bad stuff happens. Most on here also suggest getting the genuine Mikuni rebuilt kit as opposed to the aftermarket kits because the diaphrams in the aftermarket ones can be suspect. I got mine from Minnetonka4Me and he ships fast. For hose i used automotive grade hose which can be found at various autoparts stores or amazon, etc.
 
I have not checked to see if Tempo is still making lines, but as noted above, we go by; if it says TEMPO on it remove it..
 
By by tempo lines. Did them today. Also, cleaned carbs, fuel filter, and selector. Took all of about 3 hours. Filters in carb will show you why to replace them. Nasty. Filter was the worst. Big bottle of carb cleaner and compressed air are your best friends. I suggest un bolting filter and selector before trying to work on them. Much easier.

Well I replaced the feed hose, inline filter & just cleaned the carb filter (used Sea Foam). Also installed a new intake grate (it was missing). It runs Grrrrrrrrreat!!!!
I'll replace the other TEMPO lines when I fix my fuel gauge (probably will try cutting it open and fix blow fuse like I read in another thread???
 
Replace the all! The fuel system on a 2 stroke is no place to bed a cheap a$$ lol. Replace them replace the rest now

I'm not being cheap - the hose is nothing. It's the labor, I've got to pull the full sender anyway. I just wanted to see if cleaning the carb filter solved my problem. (Which it did) It's obvious the oem hose is crap.

I think Adam was just teasing a little?

Seriously tho, according to the real experts out here, if you run it with them nice, clean carbs and cruddy fuel supply system you will be faced with cleaning the carbs again or worse yet having the crud cause a lean condition and a blown engine.

Yes, it's from the fuel selector valve, to the water separator/fuel filter and then to the carbs.

Well the GTS started acting up like the GS did so I pulled the carb filter. The GTS has newer Goodyear fuel hoses with an inline fuel filter. This is what I found:

I think I should move the inline filters just outside the carbs.

BTW - SeaFoam spray works great to clean & doesn't harm the filter.
