(The gist: is this 99 Speedster sk a good deal @ $6300?)

Love this forum! I've lurked for quite some time. Seems like a pretty neat community here.

I'm not new to boating, per se, but have never OWNED a boat-- Always wanted to! Scared to death to own one because I'm not especially mechanically inclined (but like to figure stuff out and am a fast learner.)

I've looked to get into entry level boating for 2 years and am just waiting for the right boat to come along to ski/tube/wake (recreationally..nothing too serious). Found a 1999 speedster SK locally on craigslist.

From what I've read on the forums, seems to be a good entry level boat with reputable engines (720's) and a fairly decent level of reliablity overall (except the gas gauge).

Guy wants $6300 for it, claims excellent shape and runs perfect. Pictures look good. Link: http://cincinnati.craigslist.org/boa/1763482991.html . Concerned with the top speed he claims to be in the high 40's. Thought this model peaked at 7-8 mph more than that.

nada has this boat @ $3650 low retail and $4105 average retail.

If you were me, and the test drive/inspection went well, what would you offer him?

Thanks for your help.

The SeaDoo boats always go for more than "book" price, but since the economy is down... $6k for that boat is too much, unless it truly is perfect (near showroom condition) and it has 2 fresh engines.

There is a 99 SK in Pittsburgh for $4500 in very good condition. (almost bought it myself)

With that said... you are buying at the wrong time. You will pay more for a boat from now and for the next 3 months. It's peak boat season since it's just warming up in the NE.

Hi there. I live about 30 minutes south of you in Independence KY. Last year I pad $6200 for my 98 speedster which is pretty much the same boat. Of course I drove 9 hours to PA to pick it up. The price was a little high but it was in almost new condition with 85 hours on it. I would try to talk him down a little. If it was in really good cindition I would offer maybe like $5500.

I look at the boats on craigslist almost daily. They usually arent many seadoos in this part of the country. You may get a better deal if you wanna drive somewhere.

Also, if you wanna check mine out sometime let me know. I am getting ready to head to Norris Lake in TN Fri till Mon.

RFoster, you got twin 800cc, the SK has 2-720's...so i think what Foster paid was good/acceptable, but for 2-720's, wouldnt go no more than 5500...being excel condition.

No, there aren't many around here--even though a few people on this forum have stated these models are plentiful.

Love to check out yours sometime--and get the inside scoop.

Ps. Love Norris-- might be my favorite place on earth.

We got plenty of room if you dont have anything going on this weekend. Walking out the door now, will be there till monday. We rented a huge house with a private dock.

Hope you guys had a GREAT weekend at Norris...!

Who is the best Seadoo dealer in our area in Cincy? How much do you trust them?

There are only 2 in Cincy that I am aware of. Beechmont motorsports, which I think isnt even licensed to sell seadoo parts anymore. Then you have Pleasant Valley Marine here in Florence. They are 10 minutes from my house. I would let them work on my boat, but there is no way I would buy anything from them. Their prices are waaaay too high. I had a friend looking for 2 new jet skis and they wanted crazy prices. I ended up finding him a great deal on a pair in NC. It is worth it to travel if you are buying new.

If you need a mechanic. I got a guy for you. He does my work that I dont know how to do. He lives in Crittenden which is 20 minutes south of Florence. He use to work at pleasant valley. I can give you his number.

Norris was a blast. My new favorite lake. Next we go down I will let you know in advance if you wanna join us.

Foster-- I was looking at another sportster online tonight and noticed that the coast guard official capacity (or whatever that official aluminum plaque is) states "4", even though there are 5 total seats (with the rear facing bow seat.) So you can't technically have anyone sit in the at bow seat? Doesn't make much sense to me....

Thats odd. Mine says 5 and has 5 seats. I thought they went by the number of seats. Either way, it doesnt matter. I never have 5 people in the boat. I dont like putting anyone in that seat. They are in the way and the boat handles like crap with someone there. That and we are usually close or over the weight limit with only 4 people.
