Hey guys,

I have installed a new speedometer sensor and wheel assembly and now when I use the machine the speedometer jumps around and sometimes climbs with the rpm of the engine and sometimes when I use the VTS. Then eventaully will stop working for a while. The boat runs good with no issues. I am assuming its a bad ground but I am unsure where to start. Any ideas??

Thanks in Advance,
Daniel

I have an '02 XP speedo that was mostly accurate, so i replaced the sensor as that's what usually fails. turns out it was a poor connection between the speedo and the ski, and I might have been able to fix it without replacing parts, but i had already installed the new one by that time. anyway Don's Crapasaki had jammed the connector in, causing the bad connection. when I replaced it, it did take me a good 6-10 min to get it RIGHT. now my speedo works 100% and is only 2 MPH off at 65 MPH... i figure that's accurate enough...

check your wiring....

Excuse me, I'm on the wrong thread, I thought it said erotic speedometer.

Lou

speaking of which, remember that time we took the old speedo cable off your camaro and lubed it up real good and then, oh wait, just remembered we swore we would never speak of that again... nevermind...

He wanted help w/ the speedometer not a sex lesson........hahaha

Y'all boys have a slippery good ole time now ya hear! ! !

first ya lube her up real good like... (the opening in the back of the ski)...

then ya put it in tight and lock it down. (the piece that squeezes the rubber).

rubber pad.

Sounds like I've hit a sensitive topic for many people. LOL You guys gave me a good couple laughs but still a messed up speedo. I wont use the word erratic anymore...

I havent had the chance to look at the grounds just thought I would bounce some ideas around here to see if its happened to others.

Thanks again guys.

I'll try to be serious now. At best the speedometers on SeaDoo's are off 5-6mph, so most of us don't think it's a big deal. It's really a pretty simple system and usually replacing the paddle wheel will fix the speedo. It sounds like you have either a wiring issue or possibly the gauge itself.

I would download a manual for your ski and start ohm'ing out the wiring, and like sqrl said, check the connection where the paddle wheel plugs into the wiring harness. Sorry to have started all of this but it's all in good fun.

I personally bought a cheap GPS and use it for the speedo and other functions, compass, etc., The GPS I bought is out of date, but since waterways seldom change it really doesn't make a lot of difference.

Lou
