Engine Oil Question

I'm new to the board as a lot of Spark owners may be. I live on Lake Livingston in Texas. Thanks for having me aboard. I have been using Royal Purple "High Performance" for many years in my other engines. This oil is a full synthetic 5W-40 with an API "SN" and ISLAC "GF 5" designations. Our summer temps are typically in the upper 90's and would not be running the skis in the winter temps. Any ideas on the suitability of this oil?
TIA

Well from information from SeaDoo BRP 10w-40 full synthetic is the recommended oil. If I owned a Spark, I would use the recommended oil at least until we know more.

BTW, Welcome to the SeaDoo forum.

Don't stray, I'd use an equivalent to seadoo spec if possible.

As an aside: In the case of severe service, I prefer a straight weight oil when possible b/c these contain little or no viscosity index improvers making them a tougher oil less prone to failure thus preferable for engines that run hot and hard all day long, such as aircraft and farm equipment. These engines are typically designed with greater tolerances so they can absorb more thermal abuse without damage, and the thermal cycles are few.

Otherwise in the case of a highly precision engine I will use the oil type as specified by the OEM, probably the engine clearances require it.

Welcome aboard, I love it so many new forum members and new Spark owners. After many years on this forum, please believe me and only use the Sea Doo brand it's only a little bit more but I got this info from another member who has helped me tremendously on this forum, the doctor Dr. Honda.

I listened and I am a very happy camper.

my response was not entirely smart ass. yes part of it was because the people who built the damn thing know something about it...

but it was also that I haven't seen a FSM or even owners manual to a spark yet...

anyone have the PDF?

I guess we have the answer, 10W-40 full synthetic (SEADOO ONLY?).... I thought your Q was appropriate, FWIW, but I'm thickheaded and not into playing mind games, I'll tell ya what I think about something straight up. Yeah, I make mistakes too, but so many explanations are incomplete it requires a dialog that somehow becomes offensive for some strange reason, LOL! Don't Q authority, I guess, just move along......

meow, meow, another oil thread...... too funny, like there's some secret sauce that can't be divulged.

Thank You for posting this! I will print it out and read it before my new Spark arrives. Very helpful information.
