Ok im having a serious problem i have 96' gsx, when it runs it runs like a top.. but recently im having a problem. I plug in my lanyard i get two beeps it starts runs for 3 seconds and stalls. I go to push the start button nothing. if i take the lanyard off the post and put it back on immediately i dont get any beeps sometimes it will start sometimes it does nothing. when it starts it does the same thing runs a for a hot second and then stalls. and then sometimes if i let it sit and then plug it in ill get the two beeps but it wont crank, i get one long beep after pushing the start button two or three times. Im not about to take it to the dealer i am mechanically inclined i have checked and cleaned the rear electrical box, all the quick connects in the front, and all the fuses. where do i go from here???

What you mad about... The thing is almost 15 years old. I know you dont' expect it to live forever...

Your problem is the lanyard post. The lanyard has a ROM (read only memory) chip in it. It makes connection to the MPEM by magnetics. The rom must remain in contact with the MPEM or the unit will shut down.

Your same problem happened to me with my 97 Challenger. I replaced the post and haven't had any problems since.

There is a test in the forum for the lanyard, using a typical multi meter. Use the search engine with the key words, "DESS post" or "DESS test"... words to that affect. It may even be a sticky. I know if you look through my threads, through my profile, you'll find it. Go back a few years because it's was wrote a few years back.....

great i am going to test the post tomorrow, i haven't had this thing out all summer i am excited to ride, but this problem kept persisting and i dont have patience for electrical issues. I dont need to buy a new lanyard if i replace the post right? the lanyard is programmed to the front electrical box correct?

Yes, if it is just a bad post you can replace the post and the lanyard/key should still work as its programed to the MPEM.
