Whelp finally dug into the 97 while waiting on some parts for the 98.... guy told me the engine was froze but I figured i'd give it a once over to make sure it wasn't something else besides a locked up motor.... maybe I'd get lucky or something.... maybe.....

.... or maybe not. So now I have to send off the motor. Was also wondering how a 720 would push around this XP since it's for my wife and she won't need much...can it be done? it's the cheaper rout, and I'm all about pinching pennies [emoji108] much to the chagrin of a few of yall [emoji14] just a thought

720 will power if fine but will be more expensive and a bigger PITA. Motor mounts in the hull are different and you will need all the electronics for the 720 too. Easiest bet is a rebuilt 787.

Or better yet $400 exchange right here and I give you a good running used one. You will still have to do the fuel system. Just make sure the electronics are good so it's worth it.

This came from a 97XP also so it has the correct PTO for your drive shaft and everything. It really is "plug n play" but you should throw a coat of paint on it while it's out.

I'm always ready to help. Hit me up anytime.

Take that deal for sure. A 717 in that hull would suck. The 97 is a bit sluggish itself with a 787, no way should you go down

Oops, for some reason I was thinking X4. Yes, a 720 in a 97'+ hull would suck as even the 787 is a little under powered for it.

easy guys, you're gonna make him change his mind! lol

I attempted to do an electronics check, but can't find the DESS key. I tricked myself into thinking a normal lanyard with the clip (like on the old yamaha's) was the key when I glanced over all the merch. Looks like Tonka will be getting a few MPEMs in the mail in the next few days. Luckily I have two keys for my challenger to donate, so i'mma just get all my stuff programmed at the same time to all my keys.

Speaking of doing a quick glance over materials, in the rush to leave the guy's yard before he changed his mind about the deal, I didn't realize that the 98 was missing the exhaust pipe and carbs  . LUCKILY he's a standup guy and actually returned my calls and promised me he'd check his garage this weekend for everything he forgot to give me. He's an old retired guy with a garage full of beautifully rebuilt dune buggies, VW bugs buses and baja buggies, custom bobbers, and all kinds of cool stuff so i'm not too worried about him trying to keep them from me.

Oh well, onward and upward...any way to check the electronics without the key? Mainly the MPEM before I send it off?

I have a programmer. I can check your electronics and cross program your keys. Just bring it by sometime soon and I'll help you look it over.

.... are you sure you aren't some sort of Seadoo Saint, appointed by the BRP gods themselves? It's such a one sided friendship lol

Thanks Matt, i'll be in touch

I first met you when I got the air induction seat from you for just helping you work a couple bugs out of a 96XP purchase. Then you traded me a boat I had about a grand in(and a lot of work though) for a 95XP and 96XP on a double trailer. You left me plenty of bugs to work out but I sold the skis for $1200 each. I got $400 cash and a mint single for the double trailer.

Now I've got that HX from you that is minty and full of mods(although blown up). My point is that I'm doing just fine in this relationship haha. I honestly don't mind helping. Let's get it right, someday we may actually ride these things.

Lol ride them? I can only hope hahha

Any of the weekends coming up I'm available to bring em over, just not Feb. 27 (the babies due date) haha don't think the wife will let me out for a few days. Just lemme know, i'll go ahead and yank out the 787 to give me something to do.

Finally got off my lazy butt and started breaking down the 97. Found something I'm pretty sure is from another planet, a whole wrench, and a prop that could use a little unwinding.

So much standing water:

Pretty sure the white ball is a spider sack.... yum

I'll be up there working on my skis tomorrow. Come by late morning or just call/text whenever.

Headed to Matt's yesterday and got things rolling. Switched the motors and tested the electronics which was keeping me from moving too far forward until I knew if she worked. Had a scare until we figured out we had some corrosion (go figure, the Mpem is in the worst spot on these 97s), but got it worked out. A few tweaks and the 787 was turning over and had spark! Pumped

Had to pull it back out tonight, figured yall would like an action shot of me getting a hernia

Bro! With all the money you made acting in the Breaking Bad series you should have just paid someone to pull that out for you. "Like hurry up and pull that engine out for me Bitch"
