might get this one for under a hundred bucks this weekend...was always looking to try one of these PITA skis..
anyone know what year or make this is?
or ANY history about them?
or am i gonna get shot for posting this on a seadoo site?ski.jpg

Maybe like late 80's early 90' Kawasaki Jet Ski, I had a couple of these (back in the day). Really a blast to ride and very reliable, not real fast, but 35mph on a standup is plenty fast enough. I passed on a couple of these earlier this year, I think 350.00 for the pair.

Early 80's Kawasaki standup, as I recall in a 440cc or 550cc version. Had two back in the 80's and had a ball with them, they were new to this area and the water cops hated them! I would buy it just to decorate my garage, hell I can spend $100 on a terrible dinner.

hahah, lol ok, i'll check it out this weekend...
oscar, i'll call you before i leave Sarasota on sunday

Might be a 95 Yamaha superjet stand-up jet ski
Can see much by the pic. Whats the plate say?

Too bad they were fun old machines, kind of partial to Kawasaki myself. I've had two John Deere lawn tractors powered by Kawasaki twins and presently own a Kawasaki Mule UTV that I love. You got me looking for an old standup now, try to teach my grandkids how to ride one.

It was an early 90's Kawi SX hull. Nothing like a superjet. I've ridden all the stand-ups over the years... and the best bang for the buck is an early 90's "Square Nose" Superjet. That hull worked SO WELL... that the new "Round Nose" still uses the same lower hull. If you get on with a 701 engine in it... it will last forever.

Here's my personal SJ.

It's been a while since I've ridden a standup, but as I recall they were not very stable, probably because of the narrow hull and a high center of gravity. I fell off a lot of times, I can't imagine riding one in the ocean, a long swim back especially pulling a ski behind you.

You know new is nice, but I prefer the old machines. There is somewhat of a challenge to make them run as designed or better, probably costs more in the long run, but much more rewarding. I've been searching New York and Penn. Craigslist for a deal, should have never read the original post!

Harry, I know what you mean, you can see by my list of ski's, I feel the same way. It's just amazing to me how little the stand-ups have changed over the years, they're even still 2-strokes.

Found two older standups on C/L, going to check them out next week.

Doc, a superjet is a yamaha, right?
yea lou, i did some research and even up to 2011 they're 2 strokes....much more "environmentally friendly", but still 2 strokes..

harry,
I know the feeling...i've been on a "mission" since they told me it was sold...
Found A LOT of nice one's in my price range...TOO BAD NONE OF THEM HAD ENGINES...HULL ONLY
the one thing that makes no sense to me, is....i understand some skis are considered "classics", which i would consider would be like the first kawasaki jetski, circa 1973-1974? where they have the 10 minute commercial that played in the kawi dealer, when you fall off, it keeps circling till you grab it...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=drZXer4rlKI&feature=player_embedded
But, i personally think some people are outta their minds, $1,800 $2,200 $1,600 for like 1987,88-91 skis that are barely running or not at all...
with NO trailer, cuz you can "throw it in the back of your pickup"

I had two in the 80's, a '83 and a '84, both 440 as I recall. If you fell off they they would run in a circle and wait for your sorry arse, used to put bungee cords on the steering to tighten the circle to make them more "catchable". I know I have pictures of them someplace, will post when I find them. I found a couple around here, but they are junk, will keep looking.

harry, even if you find one for like a hundo that needs to be restored, let me know...we have freight at my company im sure it shouldnt cost more than another hunj to ship it..
or i'd even possibly throw it in the back of the pathfinder when i come up there around xmas...(like 30 min outta manhattan)
would rather it have a trailer so it dont stink up the truck...
but like i said, if you pass on anything, let me know when you go and I'll possibly have you grab it for me..

Nick, I'm always looking for another toy, I will keep you in mind. You know things get cheaper up here in the winter time, especially summer toys when the big heating bills start. I'm about thirty mile west of Syracuse, just off the Thruway.

Ok thanks harry....
see matty, you'd think something like this would exist down here, being FL and all, but people are either not selling them, or im looking in the wrong place...
I wish there was a way to look at like public dmv records of any/all jetski's that were ever/last registered, with the owner's address...
I bet there are tons just like sitting in people's yards like in or behind their shed and they just forget about them...
Down here we have something called "getting on the biz baz bus"....its a local radio station that every morning for like two hours they open the phone lines to locals who can buy, sell, trade, give away, or even ask for anything they have or might be looking for...i think I'll get on there today and give a shout to any owners of forgotten jetskis..
This is actually where i found/got my 96 spx p.o.s.

That ski would be a late 80's 300sx. (single cylinder)

might get this one for under a hundred bucks this weekend...was always looking to try one of these PITA skis..

I understand that ski was sold on ya. But I believe you will be happier with a different ski.
Since the early '80's I have had several of the older Kawi's and through the years I ended up with a '94 Yami Superjet (1st yr with the 701 engine) which is by far my favorite.
The pic you had was of a late 80's Kawi 300sx. It had a weak 300 single. For a short time I had a standard 300 Kawi jetski (same motor but lighter normal style hull) Even with the lighter hull I (at the time 175lbs) had to keep that thing pinned!
If I were you I would not get anything smaller than a 550 Kawi.
As mentioned by Dr Honda. The '94 or '95 Yamaha superjet with the 701 would be your most enjoyable ski to learn on and keep. As the power is great and you will not get bored as you get more experience. The hull is also wider for better stability.
One thing I learned with standups...the more power you have = the better skier you will (or at least appear) to be.

For Seadoobuddy; Thanks for the info, bought a '95 Arctic Cat Puma Deluxe for $50.00 last week in a wild moment. Got it running today, it needs a little TLC but my grandkids will love it this winter. Oh by the way, that's a snowmobile, we get more snow than sunny summer days in this area. I've got a '89 Kaw standup on the line here locally, waiting for the guy to accept my offer. Thanks again.
