Got boat back from mechanic all good with all new pump/bearings/impeller/WR and can't get hole shot

I'm I suppossed to feather the throttle to get it under load then accelerate??
When I would throttle forward(as to get hole shot) from idle I get the high revs and no go??
But if I slowly accelerate and feel boat moving I throttle up it goes???

Is that normal??
The other reason to cavitate would be through the carbon ring sucking air and give me a similar feeling but there is minimun amount of water in compartment??

By the time I made 3-4th pass up canal at 40+ mph lighting storm rolled in and had to get back to ramp..and then noticed throttle cable was not tightened down.

Following carb adjustment tomorrow b/c carb on port side butterfly only opens 3/4 of the way.
Broke off half of the threaded rod that adjusts throttle cable tension on starboard side. Left me enough threads so I don't have to get it replaced :o:

Aslo, need a rpm gauge quickly...

Thanks for your comments

Ask mechanic if he removed the ride plate. He may not have sealed it back up enough.

Otherwise pull back on the carbon seal boot. It should be firmly pushing the two seal surfaces together. He could have snapped it down on the wrong grooves.

That's not normal.

I'd be going back to the mechanic and tell him to fix his screw-up. There is an air leak some where. It could be around the pump housing, the ride shoe, or driveshaft seals.

awesome thanks for the replies.
Going out again to make sure its not drivers error and have carbs adjusted right.
but def going back on monday...

so I should be able to gun it for a lack of better term from idle and it should get up and go and not cavitate? I shouldn't have to throttle slowly???

Boat works fine :hurray:
Went out on canal and did a few passes.
It cavitated once/ twice and noticed one engine had shut off.
Both engine boat was good.

Did find water coming through fitting where weed grate cable goes through.
the plastic threaded cap was boken leaving some threads.
Cable sits in a rubber seal that that popped out. Pushed cable back in and no more water.

So glad it finally runs..

Thanks for the help
