Buying a 97 xp, guy doesnt know where to check for motor size. IMMEDIATE HELP PLEASE

97 xp low hours and im getting a very good deal on it, he thinks its the 951cc but he doesnt know where to look or how to confirm it, neither do I, please help!
 
Hi, and welcome to the forum.

If it's a 97 it has the 787 motor. You can check the HIN, hull identification number, its on the aft (rear) of the ski, the last two numbers is the year of the ski. BTW you are going to be better off with the 787, it has plenty of power 110HP, some of the early 951s had problems.

There is motor plate on the front of the motor. It will tell you the engine size but it should be a 787 if it is a 97. The 98 and newer is the 951 and is a better fit for the XP spring seat hull.

There is only 1 bad 951 motor, imo, and that is in the '97.5 gsxl, also known as the white 951. The 98 951 is very good but the 99 and newer is even better because it has the dual coil system and larger acc pump on the carbs.
