Im just fininshing up my winter project (98 sportster 1800) and was hooking up the battery to check to see if everything electrical was working (boat has been sitting for 5 years) and found that everything works but the bilge fan seems quite loud. are they supose to be really loud and clunky sounding? I ran it for 5 min straight and it still works it just seems loud and like its going to come out of there. if anyone has a spec amp draw rating on that fan that would be great too.

If it has been setting for 5 years trash it and get a new one. Chances are it will break down when you need it, and they can't be repaired.

thanks. i think i will replace it. but tonight i was messing around with the boat and hooked up the battery and turned on the blower to see what it sounds like again and after about a min or 2 of it being on it quieted down considerably. now i find that some other electrical thing don't work, deck lights, and the horn. does the temperature play a big role in the electrical system on this boat? thanks

bilge fan...?

You should be able to pop it out and take it to West Marine and get a new one. They are not that expensive.

No, temps shouldn't play a big role in the performance of your electrical system.

Mine took a dump last week. After Karl mentioned West Marine, Ichecked out and other places, found them to be 25 buks. Mine was the "Atwood Turbo 4000", but, messing with it, sprayed some wd-40 to it, and nowfan works killer and no sound...

so is it pretty safe to say they have problems with bad grounds? cause all the electrical items were working just a week ago. only thing i have done it the mean time is disconnect and reconnect the battery.

In general all boats have a problem with electrical connections. It's nature of the beast on the water, especially in salt water.

ok well here is something funny. everything works electrically. looks like i might be in for a electrical challenge. yay, always up for that. one question. there is a square box kinda next to the MPEM and it has 4 wires going to it (yellow,yellow/black, red, and another color i forgot) anyway, what is that thing. voltage regulator?

ah yes the "rectifier" thats right! my rectifier on the left engine is cracked and broken. you don't think they get hot and break do they?

Broken?......

Not normally will you see them broken. Maybe not working from being shorted out.

You can check to see if this regulator/rectifier is working correctly by starting it up and taking an electrical reading on your battery. If it's working properly, it's putting out 14 volts are just over. If not, the battery should show about 12 volts..........

ill have to wait to get both engines in and completely hooked up for that. the rectifier is cracked badly so i think ill just be on the safe side and order one. thanks for the help all.
