Hey guys, i got one with the crank seals starting to go out. i know about the shut off to install but who will rebuild the crank or whats the best way to get one and for the best $

thanks
Scott

I wouldn't trust a local machine shop to rebuild a crank as it's a decently complex proces. Compare the price of an oem crank o from dealer to a crank from the three popular pwc engine builders. OEM is best, but oem not in your budget sbt is best imo

yea i know what you mean, i just would of thought by this time of day and age that someone on the forum would be doing it as a side job lol

so $300 for a crank, how much is a full engine rebuild w/a 2 year warranty?

Just tossing out the idea of spending not much more, and getting a whole engine :)

Dang, only $900 for a full longblock w/2 year warranty. I wonder how they compare to sbt. I know where to go if i need a new engine down the road lol! I believe I paid around $600 for a used oem motor 3-4 years ago.

That guy is in NY, I wouldn't touch any of his chit with a 10 foot pole. A Member here have bought a crank from him that ran out and the webs hit the case. You get what you pay for.

Edit:

Another guy in Canada had issues too.

You have a few different flavors in your ski profile, which ski needs the crank?

If it's a 657 or smaller I'd say just go to SBT, 720 and bigger I'd go OEM.

If you build them right you don't need to fall back on a warranty. Where's the fun in just putting an engine in?

SES does cranks. He is not the fastest but he work it solid.. I have an engine from him and I can tell you he does uphold is warranty. Rebuilt cranks around $300, New ones like WSM are in $400-$450 range. Than a whole engine is $800-$1000. So by the time you get gaskets and crap going the lowest option you have to be $400 or so. Unless you have 100 hours or less just speed another $400-$00 an get a whole engine. That is what I did this for my boat this winter 2 - 717's Pro-Line rebuilds from Fullbore for $900 each plus shipping ($60 each)

when i got this ski i went through the engine, did new top end and after riding it i found the seals leaking...kinda suck lol

Than just do the crank. What it looks like with seadoos unless you have like under 100 hours you need an engine more than just doing a top end.

Has to be the rotary style engine that everything seems to wear even on pwc seadoos. Skidoos do the top end around 5000 miles or so and you are good.

Preface:
I'm a huge supporter of OEM parts when ever possible.

If you just walk into a dealer an OEM reman 787 crank is $438(plus a $200 refundable core charge on top of that). If you shop around you can find them cheaper. For a while I was getting them not much more than an SBT or XYZ reman shop, but getting in my eyes the best quality part I could get. Again, you don't get a warranty with an OEM crank unless the dealer installs it. I have no problem pissing away the extra money on an OEM crank. Just so you know IF you were to go with a reman engine there are some differences. With SBT you get everything with SES you have to use your old rave components. So while they're cheaper you still need to use some of your old parts. Not saying one is better or worse just pointing out that everyone shops the price and SBT is more money. It's because they're giving more for that money in a sense (rave assemblies). I'm not recommending one over the other and I'm not knocking either just so that is clear. I'm sure some people might not look that close at the details, it always about the dollars.

Agreed! Stay away! Toolanddiemaker or something had a shit crank from him

95 XP800!!!
Keep the 2 strokes alive!

Whatever you do DON'T BUY ANYTHING!!!!! from that guy in NY I got screwed out of shipping cost because of the fine print shipping back a garbage crank to that clown dick. Look for an oem one if possible there a little more but we'll worth it.

You can only get OEM Rebuilts for 717 and new 2-stokes the older 587 and 657 need to go to aftermarket rebuilders. Problem will be like everything else is finding a company that rebuilds them right. Me I would get my crank from SES . Tom sometimes might not be the fastest but he does stand by his warranty and will do everything to make you happy.

Damn if you got a crank bad right out of box from a supplier they should cover the cost of shipping or just raise their prices a couple dollars to cover errors. Every place will have some amount of errors it is just how it goes. The main issue is how will that supplier take care of you to make it right.
