Oil in crank case

Hello all, I have been problem free for a while. XP was running fine when I put it up for the winter. Pulled it out to get it ready for this season and it turned over once and stopped. Sounded like battery. Battery was maintained on a maintainer and show full charge on two different chargers. I’ve had two people load tested one at AutoZone one at batteries plus. They all say the battery is good. So, I came back and took the spark plugs out and low and behold out, came a ton of oil. I know it is probably either in crank seals or Possibly oil pump? Not sure about the pump but I read that somewhere. What is the possibility that this was caused by leftover metal from my RaVE valve that came apart last year? Will it hurt if I pump all the oil out and get it cranked to run it this way I really don’t want to split the engine this year.

I doubt this has anything to do with the race valve coming apart. Most likely one or both inner crank seals are leaking, it’s quite common for it to happen to these engines when sitting for prolonged periods of time. It’s completely fine to pump the oil out by cranking the engine over with the spark plugs out. Just ground the plug wires to the grounding posts, try and hold a rag over the plug holes when cranking so as to try and keep the oil from flying everywhere, or get creative and cut a couple holes out of an old bedsheet and drape it over the machine. I have one that had filled the crankcase after sitting for a year or so. I had bought it, and by the time I got to looking at it, the crankcase had filled up. I cranked the oil out and it’s been fine for the past 2 years.. if after getting yours running, you find it’s filling up after sitting for a week or more, you may want to install shut off valve to the rotary valve while not in use, but I think you will be fine. Out of curiosity, what brand of oil are you using?

Thanks for the reply. I started blowing the oil out the spark plug holes right after supper. There was a lot in there. Got most of it out. Enough to get the engine fired up. Smoked real good, but ran normal and sounded smooth. Marked the oil level in the tank and going to watch it next few days.

I bought the ski new in 1997. Engine was rebuilt in 2012. I have run nothing but the bombardier XPS full synthetic oil in it from the beginning.
