Adding VTS to one that does not have it

Has anyone added a VTS system to a Seadoo that does not have the system already. I was thinking of adding this in the future but not sure if it can be done and what do I have to replace to make it work, would like to make it look as factory as possible. I know I can change out the start button side to one that has the switch and also add the motor and housing. the issue is the guage and what else???? I have a 2000 GTX.

Thanks

I don't think you can have the VTS and the reverse gate on the same ski. So since you have a large ski I would keep the reverse gate. I have found that the VTS does very little anyway, most people adjust it the first time they ride and then never touch it again.

However if you decide to get one you can probably use the parts from a similar model GSX.

Nope...RX is setup that way.

The trick here is all the wiring...I would prob use a VTS out of a 96 XP b/c the control wires are long and the power wires would reach the battery. Would you install a gauge? I may have a large VTS out of a 97 XP if you have a place on your hood.

The trim gauge needs power which can be had from the other gauge...then 2 more wires run up from the VTS wiring to give it its position.

Then...the nozzle and trim rod off a 02 RX will fit your needs in the rear.

You will also have to drill the hole thru the hull.

I think I may have everything you need, but this is like the 3rd time I've hand held someone thru this; the other guys never bought anything. Please be serious if you want to go further.

I'll have to go with Lou on this one. I have had so many skis (96 and 97 XP especially) that come to me with VTS problems. I've actually started telling them not to keep wasting their money to repair them. Like Lou said, for the most part, they are set and forgotten. I have the VTS on my boat, but it's manual. I use it mostly when I first accelerate, pointing my nozzle downward to keep my nose down when planning, but then, increasing the pitch of the nozzle upward to pick up speed, allowing less of the hull touching the waters surface. But, on my GTX, with the reverser bucket, there is no situation I can think of where it would be beneficial. Adding something that doesn't need to be, only gives you one more component part to maintain and buy parts for in future breakdowns.

Set and forget ? Are you kidding? On my 02 XP trim is everything. Up I can jump the whole thing out of the water from idle. Down I can Pill off crazy turns and dive the whole thing underwater! Mine goes up/down all day long.

I'm looking for a RX as well, which does have both trim and reverse. If you get all the RX parts, no reason it shouldn't work. But it does seem like a lot of work. I wish my XP had reverse for docking and trailering.

Thanks to everyone on this, I was having wear ring issues and just noticed that it takes a lot of RPM to get going and also the front is real high in the water. Please be patiant with an old man on this. LOL I have been told that once the wear ring is fixed this issue will go away and all is fine. This site is truely a great site with the people giving their thoughts on all issues. Thanks for the help.

From just the paragraph above, it does sound like you might be having a wearing ring issue. They have a measurement you can take between the ring and impeller, but I think it's a bit more than it should be, around .040". I like my impeller riding up right next to the ring to maximize thrust. As the ring wears, the nozzle looses pressure, slowing you down.

Thats because your a die hard rider. As long as you've been out there, I know you've run across the many riders who practically dont' even use it. If they do, it's minimal..
