I have a 2000 GTX DI, blue this model didn't come with the VTS. I've been spit balling with the idea of adding it to mine. What parts would be involved and what would you estimate the coast would be. I have seen allot of the parts I think I'd need on e-bay. The thumb switch and such...

A lot of members don't replace the VTS after it goes bad due to the expense. Starting from scratch will be real costly.
Use the "parts" link at the topof the page for a good idea of the items needed and cost, incase you can't get used parts from e-bay. Remember buying from e-bay is like buying some else s used sneakers...

After more thought and a look at my wallet I think yer right. It would be nice to have but not for the expense !

Personally, I don't notice a great deal of difference when I adjust the trim on my skis. Certainly not enough to justify the expense.

:agree: It would be just one more thing to go wrong later.

What is spit balling???? lol

Newer skis have basically ruined My ski Experience/Enjoyment with all this baggage
such as VTS, GUAGES, HAND HELD SHOWERS. No Need for any of THAT!

The ski's have gotten pretty complicated. The VTS(jetorater) works great on my jet boat and has an impressive rooster tail. I guess they don't have the same effect on a seadoo. better way to get a few mor mph's.

to pass, to brainstorm.
To make a suggestion loosely, often one that goes against common logic.

Vts...

My boat is one of the few that has the VTS. It's a manual version with a cable that controls the position of the nozzle. I find it very useful when tubing, skiing or just going from idle to plane at WOT.

I agree with Karl, the price of these things can't be justified because of the short time they work. When water leaks in at the boot, they short out and have to be replaced.

Why don't you have the VTS on your GTX? I also have a 1997 GTX and really, don't think I need one.

I wondered why they didn't come with it and I think I have come up with a theory. I have noticed, the RXP's, XP's, RXT's, and other single or two seat versions are shorter in hull length, less weight and more like a sport model. Here, the VTS would be a huge benefit in control of the nose of the ski.

But, in the GTX model or any of the Luxury models (3 seat models), the length and weight of the hull I believe, would not show much difference in a nozzle poing up or down..........which now, like I said, is theory (opinion).

:agree:Not enough thrust to counter the weight of the longer ski.

Sort of…….

It has to do with aspect ratio. The hull becomes longer compared to it’s width, and creates a larger range that the CG can be at, and still ride properly. If it was purely a weight thing… then it would have no effect on Snipes Challenger. (aprox 1000 Lbs dry) His boat is wide for it’s legth, and the CG has a sweat spot… so the trim works very well.

Think of it this way…. You loose your pivot point on the CG if the hull is “Skinny” for it’s length. It’s also why fast sail boats are very long and narrow… les drag, less lateral water displacement, and less fore/aft effect as it goes through waves.

(just a little early morning Physics:hurray:)
