98 GTX Limited Reverse Will Not Engage

Couldn't locate anything on other threads that is helpful to my situation.

So basically originally I tried solving this issue by replacing the plastic locking nut which was broken, with the aluminum one from amazon. I put it all back together and it still did not fix the issue. I can manually put the reverse gate in the reverse position, and then use the lever to put it back into forward, but I cant use the lever to put it in reverse from the forward position. Thanks for the help

Mine takes a quick snap on the handle to get it unlocked at the gate
Look at the parts, micro fishes there is a spring loaded latch that keeps the gate up
part number four is the lock, part number eight the spring
The lock catches on part number 12

Try disconnecting the gate from the cable and operate the cable alone to see if it runs smooth. It may need lubricating.

there isnt any tension on my lever when I try to shift to reverse. I believe all the parts on the locking mechanism are there as well. It locks into place in the reverse position and the forward position

then it probably justs needs an adjustment so the locking mechanism disengages just as you throw the lever.
