I recently picked up a 97 gsx 787. The guy i bought it from hadnt ran it in 2 years do to a no start issue. I towed it home, threw a battery in it, checked the compression and moved on to spark. Pulled the first plug, nice blue spark. pulled the second, no spark. Went back to the first and that one had lost spark as well. So the pwc was cranking fine just no spark. Headed inside did some research on wiring, troubleshooting, and other stuff. Went back out this evening after work to test the coil and some other things. Went to crank the motor and nothing. No click or anything. Checked the battery sitting good at 12.76 volts. Look at the display and it says 12v low. Switch batterys 12v low goes off but still no crank. I also found that I should be getting to beeps when I put my lanyard in. Im not getting that. Didnt get it when it was cranking before either. Went through checked grounds, fuses, and connections through out the craft. I will randomly get a click out of the relay on the back left corner of the craft when I hit start. Tried hitting the start 5 times to get the codes to show and still nothing. Im new to the pwc world but couldnt pass up the deal on this ski. Anything anyone can tell me that might help is greatly appreciated. And I also noticed that it randomly says hi temp on the dash as well.... I did test the dess with an ohm meter and everything checked out. thanks in advance!

Update: found a broken main ground wire. It now cranks perfectly but still no beeps when lanyard installed and still no spark. Any ideas?

light test the white wire at coil. If it lights up, then either new coil or clip the plug wires, at boots' ends'.

If no light, inspect the stator assy or mpem is shot. Double check the grounds/lead cables also.

I have a 1997 gsx, and regarding the two beeps, on mine was the lanyard post, tryed with another post and runs fine. by the way you dont have to reprogrammed the key to the new lanyard post.
regarding the no spark condition, have no idea

ok another update lol: Checked out the beeper and it was bad. Replaced the beeper. Still no beeps when i plug in the lanyard but when i put the ski into advanced diagnostic mode i get one short beep then "hi temp" flashes on the gauges. Pulled the while wire to check for light..... When the wire is pulled the engine will NOT crank. Didnt believe it at first so plugged it back in and it cranked fine. Unplugged it and nothing. Just a click. Does this point to anything else? Thanks for the replys guys and the help!

Ok well I installed a test coil and it lit right up. So I have another coil on order. Will update as needed.

Final Update :hurray: !!!! Replaced coil and upon replacing it found another bad ground. Replaced coil, repaired ground and......... VROOOOOM!!! She fired up first time touching the start! So went bad through and checked everything, zip tied some wires up and took her to the water! She ran good my only complaint is my VTS isnt working.... i hit the black button beneath the start and the red hazard light flashes on my gauges and no change in trim. any ideas guys? and also is there any maintenance that i should do before i actually take it out and ride on the water? thanks for all the help guys and all i can say to everyone is check all your wires on these things over and over and over and... u get the point lol!

Change your jet oil and spark plugs. Since its been sitting you might want to change your fuel filter also
