Ok, so I'm a good mechanic when it comes to F-15's... but this little seadoo is kickin my butt. I just picked up this ski... guy said it was running and winterized before me buying it this spring. Some knuckle head crimped in a new wire, you know, that little 'extra' wire that is supposed to hook up to the negative terminal? Ya, that one... well, whoever it was, crimped in a new RED wire. So, basic electrics... I hooked it up to the positive terminal and POOF, fried and cracked open the coil. Now, replaced the coil and a replaced 7.5 fuse and I have the ski turning over, really well actually. Problem is, no spark!? Is there a way to test the coil (bought it used online)? The points look good and seems to be in good condition. Ok, so lets assume the coil is good... what is my next step? Any help is greatly appreciated:)

light test the white wire at coil, no light, then pull the mag cover off and inspect the trigger coil bracket and stator windings...if it does light up, the n clip the plug wires at boots' ends and see what happens.

I have an extra mpem, that works in that ski, programmed key with it, if interested...just removed it, from my 96xp

When I was getting the batteries put into the ski's for the first time I hooked the wire directly to the positive terminal of the battery because like I said, some nit-wit crimped in a fresh RED wire instead of the stock black wire. I was able to locate the swedge right where the wire dissapears into the black electrical box... only after I fried the coil. Now, after doing some research and a lot of reading on the "no-spark" issue was I able to find out that the little wire was supposed to be hooked to the negative terminal.

"Seadooya", I'm going to go out and test for a light at the white wire... I'll let you know what I get. I may need to take you up on the mpem... I'm still not exactly sure what that is, or where it's located tho. I've been hearing that term thrown around a lot during my research. My buddy helping me out seems to think that it's the CDI!? How do I isolate my problem? -Thanks

no light at the white wire... what is the mag cover and what is it exactly that I'm looking for?

being a 96 787, the "bracket" that holds the trigger coil is known to break..bad part on seadoo, but fixed it came 97, anyway, the mag cover is located in front of motor. Need to undo the bolt securing "flange" to mount, the nprop the motor up with 2x4, so yuo can get to all the 8 or 10mm bolts securing the plate/mag cover, to the motor. Once removed, the stator assy is connected to the plate, then you'll see the "trigger", if its hanging around, then thats the problem, also inspect the stotor windings....

MPEM is located under the storage bin, in a grey box, where ALL the wires connect to, hell, check there also before opening mag cover, maybe a fuse is popped.

Apparently some of the wires are torched from power being routed thru the system the wrong way (extra wire that is SUPPOSED to go to the negative battery terminal was connected to positive). Hopefully the mechanic guy can give me a better idea of what exactly is fried. Anyway... scouting around for either A) new wiring harnesses + electronic parts, or B) electronic parts. Sounds like the MPEM... but it could be more. Ski turns over but has no spark. Oh, and I don't think the VTS works either. Possibly all tied in!? PLEASE HELP!!! The girlfriend is pissed because we bought the skis in March and haven't even been able to enjoy them yet (due to this problem). Mechanic says he won't throw parts at it because it'd cost me more than the ski itself is worth... but I'm just trying to keep my girl happy. Any help is greatly appreciated. -Greenr

Once I know more about how much damage there is I might need to take you up on this. Is the offer still good!? How much and could I possible get other parts (if needed?) Thanks!

It was definitely the MPEM that was the no-spark problem. Turns out the VTS is fried too. So that'll be replaced and the ski should be on the water! EBay was the best place to find parts. Everywhere else had astronomical prices!
