Just got back my 96 GTX back from paint. The hull is completely tore down, inside washed/degreased. Paint is black pearl, and clear coated. I have a fresh 787, new top end with low hour crank & counter shaft, painted yellow. Will post my progress as I go.

That looks great.
What a difference.

What type of paint did they use? and what did run to paint the hull?

They say it can be a diy thing if you but its easier to leave to the pro's.

Subscribing to thread!

Looking GOOD! Gotta ask, is the yellow engine a tribute to ol yeller (the 657 i believe)? Looks awesome!

Did you recently buy this off craigslist from the guy in oakharbor?

No, I had this ski for a while now.

Here is what it looked liked before the new paint, pulling motor. I painted motor yellow as that is the color I wanted it, nothing to do with the early 587's.. Will post some more pic's shortly.

Was this the machine that fireballed you?

Na, my 97 GSX did that. Have both 787's pulled from my 96 & 97 GSX's for complete rebuilds as well. The ski that caught fire I have all the wiring out, and updating. Looking for the carb linkage - all melted. No hull damage.

so.... i have to know

did this get painted at your shop or something or did you take it somewhere,,,

basically i'm curious what it costs for a single color paint job on a ski that's been stripped.

Me too.
I've wanted but figured it would be as much as the ski and I'm not stripping it to paint it.
So stickers it is.

i don't think you'd have to strip the stuff out of the inside to paint a ski, but there would be a good bit of disassembly that would need to happen, and a lot of effort in removing the hood, masking off the steering parts (could get away with pulling the handlebar pad and masking just what would show with it on) and other bits.

To do it right, a tear down is the only way. Most of the skis we paint are with a urethan basecoat clear coat. This ski was paint at friends newly opened body shop.

Got some more paint work done this weekend. Painted some flater then black acent stripe thru the foot wells up into the nose of hull, and hood.

Looks great ive been scared too paint the bottom of a hull, im just worried about possibly having to beach it and chipping the paint and then it peeling back. Looks awesome though. Are you puting any color on this besides black
