96 gsx with 140 hours

The GSX I have found for the wife has 140 hours on the ski, and is in showroom condition. Ski has always been stored indoors and under a cover. Is this to many hours on a 787.........how many hours should a well taken care of 787 last..... Going on Friday to do a compression test. Thank you, Rob.

140 is not a concern.
ski can last double that pretty comfortably, but obviously every ski is different, and "well taken care of" has many definitions.
indoor storage is a big plus in my book.
your looking for 150 150 on comp test, and a clean hull, inside an out,
water test is preferred as well, since sometimes they run fine on trailer, not so good on water.

Ride and compression test is the best thing to do.

As noted, 140 hrs is fine as long as it was maintained well. If abused they seem to need top end rebuilds around 200 hrs.

I've got a 96GSX with about the same hours, it had 76hrs. when I bought it. Still runs real strong, great compression 152-154, I'm not expecting to rebuild until at least 350hrs. so 140hrs. is barely broken in. Go for it.

My 96 gsx has 138 hours, runs awesome and has 140psi on each hole. I'm not planning to open it up for a good inspection until 200hrs I figure

This ski has been winterized, and should have fogging oil in it. Will this affect the compression test readings, make them higher then they really are..... Thank you all for your help and input. Rob.

The fogging oil will affect the compression reading.

Just crank it a few cranks before you do the test to clear the oil from the cylinders. I'd put a towel over the plug holes just in case there is enough oil to actually squirt out if the plug holes.

If do two. Make sure battery is in great shape as that will seriously affect the accuracy.

Do NOT charge the battery and crank the engine at the same time.

So here are the pics of the 96 GSX. Mats are off the ski, hydro turf on the way. New grips, and start button also on the way. I've done new fuel lines, new oil lines, rebuilt carbs, and new reg. numbers. Let me know what you guys think!!!

Ski was at the dealer with a rave problem, and was fixed under warranty, I have all the dealer records from the owner. I am the second owner.
