While I am rebuilding this 96 GSX, I decided to add some of the options it doesn't have. The harness & info center have the plugs for the a temp sensor, compass & speedometer. I picked up a compass & temp sensor on ebay, but there is no mention of them in the service manual, so I have clue where they install. Has anybody seen the location of these items?

Thanks, Carl

This GSX has the large info center that has all the plug ins hanging under the for for the sensors, Right now it only shows fuel, trim, the time, & RPM. I sure don't need the other sensors, but seeing its all setup for it & they are cheap used, why not? ;)

Do you know specifically where they go? Under the hood, but where? The temp sensor looks to go through a hole that must get drilled somewhere, & the compass has two mounting tabs, but there is no bracket under there. I suppose I could just put them anywhere under there, but was hoping somebody might have the options on the same ski.

All you need to do is plug them into the matching connector. I mounted the compass on one of the hinges for the cover, you'll need to remove the original bolt and use a longer one, I used two nuts to mount the compass. The temp. sensor I just pushed up one of the wiring harness holes in the hood and used a cable tie to secure it.

Since I didn't see the need for two tachs. I removed the analog tach. and replaced it with a speedometer, the speedometer also has the lake temp. sensor, if you're interested in doing this let me know and I'll find the thread.

Lou, does the water sensor go through the hull near the speedo sensor wire? MAybe I'll use it for that. I would have more interest in the lake temperature than the outside temp anyway.......

The lake temp. sensor is actually part of the speedometer sensor and is in the same cable. If you look at the ride plate you will see a blank piece of plastic, the speedometer sensor replaces this blank. If you do this you might as well replace the analog tach. with a speedometer, the gauge is only about $50.00. I got all my parts from minnetonka4me.

I'll find the thread and post it in a few minutes.

Dang, I just bought a speed sensor for that plate. Its a three wire connector. Think its in that thing? I was wondering how a lake temp sensor plugged in. with the compass, outside air temp, & speed sensor there were no extra plugs left on the harness Maybe I am installing that one too without even realizing it?

Thanks you Lou!! Very good & informative reading!!

I can see installing the Speedo, the tack is somewhat pointless except for adjusting the idle & trouble shooting anyway. however, I would hate to miss a shift & float the valves...... ;)

So this is a little like Christmas! I ordered a speed sensor & wiring harness & got a temp sensor for free & I didn't even know it!

BTW, you just hit 6500 posts. You might need a moment of silence & reflect for a minute......

You'll still have a digital tach. in the info. gauge.

Thanks, for noticing the posts, this forum is great, by most standards I'm just a shade tree mechanic but I've learned a lot from the pro's on this forum.

Lou all I am is a guy like you that got into it a bit earlier...everything I know about seadoos came from forums and trial and error.

I am definitely going to make the Tach to speedometer conversion & soon as I find the correct speedo at a reasonable price.

I have been a dummy on the other stuff, I didn't realize there was a supplemental service manual for the 96 GSX, Everything I have been wondering about is in there. It would appear there were two types on storage covers. One that comes apart with a dozen screws & one that is permanently bonded. Mine would be the later of the two....
