787 head torque pattern

Start in the center, and work out in a criss-cross pattern. Torque to 9 Lb/ft. then re-torque to 17 Lb/ft.

I recommend putting a little lube on the bolts (or anti-seize) to help them torque correctly.

what do you use to make sure of the torque spec. i'll be having to put things back together in the future and was wondering this myself

Use a torque wrench. Any auto parts store, Sears, HD, Lowes, etc will have a couple models.
