4- tech oil switch repair warning!

For those of you replacing these for the first time, be careful of over tightening them. The housing and the case can strip or worse. I was installing my new one in the front into the oil separator housing. When it got tight I stopped and attempted to connect the wire to the plug. Well, it was too short because I stopped with the plug facing the right. My internal genius decided that a half turn more would line it up and I'd be done. Nope! A quarter turn later I felt it give and no longer resisted turning. I had broken out a chunk of the housing making that last half turn an expensive mistake. While you guys ride this week, I'll be waiting on a new housing. Since I'm down, I pulled the pump, found an o-ring off center, wear ring is shot and the pump is probably not in line with the motor. Might be ready by Saturday night, sigh.

Why did you replace the oil switch in the first place?

It was going into limp mode with the oil warning in the display. Rather than isolating the trouble to one of the switches, I just replaced both.

Good info.. pondering swapping mine. Did boat go consistantly into limp mode... or occasionally?

It ran fine for 5-10 minutes and then, once it happened the first time, it would do it every time I tried to get back on plane at around 2700-2900 rpms. I had just hopped a wake as a big wakeboard boat went by. I never got a warning for the TOPS but I'll be looking much closer next time out.

limp mode usually means it is the oil switch under the intake manifold

hard cornering and limp mode usually means exhaust temp warning which can be clogged ports in the j-pipe

Skidoo your are on the tweak side of spectrum. Great feedback. Thanks for insight. Recently pulled sea strainer out, problem soon arose. My situation is a little bit radical mod jpipe straight through exhaust with no WB and exh temp rednecked tied to chamber. But.... Can overly hot oil cooler cause oil pressure sensor to shut down? No hijack dissrespect Bell99.. learning curve for my dumbass.
