4-TEC Oil Change "How To" **Video**

It seems like every season this question gets brought up and there isn't any "how to" videos out there for the 4-TEC. Well I broke down and made one. Not the greatest but it gets the point across. Excuse the quck editing. Moderators feel free to Sticky it if you feel it has any value.

I used Valvoline 10w40 motorcycle oil this time. It was the regular mineral oil not the synthetic kind. I couldn't find BRP oil locally.

basic, same method as when i changed the oil in a buddies fx ho.. btw, what bottle/pump are you using to take the oil out? the stupid extractor i got from pepboys is horrible haha

Yea that's just a hand operated vacuum pump. Slow but works great and I think I only paid $20 for it on sale. I use it twice a year (my rxt and my friend's FX HO) so I don't need anything fancy.

About two days too late though.....lol, I just changed my oil, it was piece of cake like the video shows, thanks for putting the video up.

I used Yamalube 4W PWC oil in my 2004 GTX 4 TEC, mine are not turbocharged, the Yamalube is 1/2 the price of the SeaDoo oil.

I used a k&N filter and reused the O rings, I do not think its necsasary to change the O rings the 1st time, mine were clean and new looking so I decided to reuse them.

One more thing you can use an 8mm 6 point socket to remove the E10 torx nut on the oil filter housing it worked great.

Yea I reused the O rings. They still looked good and no leaks. The whole 8mm socket works and it doesn't. If you use a cheap 8mm socket you risk stripping the bolt. If you're gonna do any work on these Seadoos invest in a torx socket set

The drain tube shouldn't go any farther than say....18 3/4" into the dip-stick tube.

Also...if you place the bottle on the ground...natural siphon action will help out after you inititally start the flow.

I know. I just wanted to keep the bottle in the frame. Normally I set it on the ground.

Don't want the tube bending on the bottom. I've tried squeezing a bit more length out for the last drop...ain't much more though.

Newbie question - try not to laugh Where does the NEW oil get poured into...down the dipstick???? :facepalm:

EDIT: I guess the oil fill cap is that red cap with the picture of the oil can on it?

the oil fill cap is that yellow cap that he removes at 7:00 and then sticks the funnel down and fills up with oil... yours "might" be red.. (i have yet to stick my head inside a sportster) but it should be at the same location as where KK poured his oil down

good video but there are a couple of things that will help with oil changes. you should warm up the engine first for 3 minutes on the hose and right before you shut it off, you should rev it to 5000 rpms for 10 seconds. This will move all the oil from the pto housing to the main oil sump. The warm oil will flow much faster meaning less pumping and only a few minutes to remove all the oil.

on the older 4 tecs with a plastic oil filter cap, don't pull the bolt out of the oil cap. it will break the tabs on the underside. the bolt isn't necessary to be removed on any of them. just use your fingertips and pry around the edge at different places and it will come.
