4-tec bendix failure

You will need to buy the new flywheel bolt kit 295501043 with the stretch bolts. Don't reuse your old bolts unless you're a gambling man but it isn't worth the $12 gamble imo.

Whats the scoop with the bolts? They are not listed on OSD's website for ordering. Are they something other than a GR2, GR5,?

Yes, very different, they are not a high grade bolt at all. They are a stretch bolt meaning you reach a certain torque, then turn another specific degree of rotation. If you've never dealt with stretch bolts before it is a weird feeling like you have just stripped it out or that it is breaking. Other 4tec stretch bolts are the block bolts, rocker arm bolts, and head bolts. Stretch bolts have become very common on the aluminum based engines.

I thought I would give you guys an update.

I got everything back together this morning & got it out on the water. Engine seems to run very smooth. The replacement flywheel fit perfectly on the crank, so I am not sure what was up with the original one being so hard to get off. I did use the updated bolt kit also.

Only problems I have are there is drive line rattle at idle (in water & out) & the engine bucks on the compression stroke of warm restarts. similar to an engine with a bit to much ignition timing, and or heat soaked heads. I'll check the batteries capacity, but I don't think thats a problem.

I can start another thread on those rather than dragging this one on. But the good news is, the ski runs good & seems to be in good shape. Just needed a flywheel & a complete pump rebuild.
