2009 RXT 255 iS IBR failure

Hi there, Gianno. I have the sister ski to yours. A 2009 RXT 255 IS and I am having the same problem. My VTS buttons on the side are inoperable, I drove it sometime like this. But then the ibr went bunk and stuck in reverse. I took it apart and found motor jammed in down position. Motor functions like new both directions when putting power to it directly. I cleaned everything up, put it back together and it did the same thing and jammed itself in reverse. Did you figure yours out???? I am stumped, but am thinking the brain in the darn module is pooched. I will look at the testing procedures provided here. 49 hours on the unit.

Hi Spark,
I took Ski-Doo's advice and replaced the iBR module as he said they had issues with the 09 and 10 models. He was correct! I finally got it back together and the iBR is back in operation as it should be. I have not yet chased the VTS button issue - maybe this winter. Big thanks to Ski-doo for his help. Understand that just the parts will cost you around $1500, because they have made some changes to the module which require some new arms in the bucket linkage. It is also recommended to replace all the bolts so they have factory loctite applied. I also had bolts freeze up in the right mounting bracket and the brass inserts were spinning, so had to destroy that to get it out. And the inside seal on the iBR module side (left) was shot, so that was another delay.

Bottom line: Replace the module. Ski-doo may be able to hook you up, or seadoo parts central in Coldwater, MI was awesome. I emailed about a part, and they responded quickly that they did not have it in stock, but listed three places in my area that did. That's good customer service!

I am not an expert on this by any means, but just did it so if you have questions, hit me up while it's fresh in my mind!
Cheers, Gianno

Gianno, Thanks very much for the reply. I think I am going to be in the same boat as you and will replace it. I have found a used IBR system with 44 hours from a 2011 for less then $500, I am rolling the dice but I think I am going to go that way and get the updated bucket from there as well. My bolts all came out of the bracket that always strips so I dodged one there. Once you replaced the IBR the VTS is still inoperable? If so that is disappointing, thought I would kill two birds with one stone. My cruise control is also inoperable, I haven't had any luck with this ski at all. Please update if the VTS is still inoperable and you cannot operate the IBR in manual mode.

Yes, the VTS buttons on the left bar are still inoperable. My VTS does work if accessed from the display menu and the right up/down buttons are used. And that's how it functioned prior to the problem as well. The right side up/down buttons can also be used when in "iBR Override" mode, even though the manual only mentions the VTS buttons. When my iBR failed, the override mode would not function, but it does with the new module. My cruise control is also inoperable. There may be a separate "add-on" module that is required for that feature. Not sure if it was a standard feature on these models or not when they were new. You would think the Limited models would have all those options, but maybe not. Unusual for there to be a used iBR system available. Hope it works for you!

I have the same ski, and the same issues. Thanks to Ski-doo, he has pointed me here.

I'm in the process of changing out the IBR system. Bought all the parts but the actuator. I'll be biting that bullet this week.

Anyone have any luck with the VTS buttons? I can't even push mine. It's like they went solid. No depression, no click.
Can they just be replaced? I can only imagine what new switches are worth.

Robman, I changed my ibr system with the used one from a 2011 RXP and the ibr system now works but the buttons on the left to control it for trim still are inop. I just bit the bullet and ordered a new switch assembly for the left side like $120 Canadian after tax.... Stupid button. I will post if it actually fixes the stupid thing. This machine is getting me broke faster than its 0-60!

I changed my IBR system as well. Thanks hbrgreg, huge help.
With the new IBR, it works great. I simply replaced the parts that the service bulletin lists (don't buy the fixing plate, 268 000 067, you don't need it). I put it all back together, which didn't take as long as I expected, and instantly the IBR logo on the dash disappeared, no fault codes, and everything works as it should. I was very surprised...as I still expected some issues.
Still not sure how BRP doesn't recall the IBR, as they ALL go bad.
In regards the buttons on the handlebars....I had an electrical engineer friend of mine pull it apart, unsolder the buttons from the circuit board, and solder on new ones (they are a pretty common electrical part). So didn't cost me anything, and works like it should. So far so good.
I had the supercharger rebuilt, and got it all back together. That suspension system makes doing any work on the engine quite a task. Might be a bit easier if I was the size of a horse jockey, as it is very tight. It's all about how you lift the suspension from the back, so you can get that engine compartment cover off. Pain in the ass!
But now that we have had decent weather, and I'm racking up a few hours of riding....it almost makes the work worth it.
Running great. Lots of fun. And the suspension system is much better than I ever imagined. Cushions the ride perfectly for my old bones...lol

Update on mine. I changed the IBR system from a 2011 RXP 260 that was parted out. So those of you wondering if you can put in any newer style IBR from a different model without reflashing or computer work, you can. But you will need to update the grate thing to match the new system. It now functions as it should. After my wallet is drained.

Now, changed left hand button cluster with brand new OEM updated unit July 14th 2016 and VTS portion still inoperable. You can still change the VTS trim by putting it in manual mode on the right hand button cluster but the trim button doesn't work. The suspension portion of the button (IS) on left appears to be working. Also the cruise control is still inop. Any help out there? I was so hoping it was going to be the button...
