2008 RXP 215 slipping when going full speed and WOT

Hello all, I just picked up 2 2008 rxps. The 215 has an issue where when you hold wot and it reaches near full speed something slips and power is lost and something inside is chirping and almost grinding. Almost like a clutch is slipping, but it usually only happens when holding wot and going almost full speed. Have to wait for it to slow down then apply throttle again to get going again, if i try to cut throttle when it happens and then try to throttle up too soon it just keeps slipping. Also i think the max rpm i saw was only 7250, but im not 100% sure, my rxp 255 does avout 8200 rpm.

is this the wear ring or is the impeller slipping on its shaft? Im not too familiar with the jet systems, i am familiar with how motors work...

also on my rxp 255, when i am going slow or just idling and i hit wot, it is pretty slow off the line, i get more 'pick up' when i ease into the throttle rather than do full burst.
im guessing that is from cavitation? Is the prop/impeller in need of replacement? How do you check if you have blockage from seaweed or twigs or anything in the system?

How many hours?

Quick throttle change could trigger your Supercharger clutch to slip. This is a rebuild or replace item. It wears out over time.

Or something is stuck deep inside around your impeller shaft and you need to clear it.

yip, i've never experienced clutch slip so i'm a bit in the dark on this one,

BUT, I will say this...

When you experience issues like this, do NOT repeat it, get it looked at unless you really are chomping at the bit to buy a new engine.

On the 215, it sounds like you have a wiped out drive shaft in the PTO end. You will need to pull the pump no matter what you do, so go a bit deeper and pull the shaft and look at the splines at both ends...

On the 255, when you floor it, do the RPMs pick up well but not the actual ski performance? If so, then that is likely the wear ring.

They both have the same basic issues, but I think for different reasons in this case.

215 now has 160 hours, 255 now has 230 hours...

The 215 seems like it is not water tight, after a few min I took the seat off and saw water, then it was gone like 20 min later..???... Do these have bilge pumps? Where do I find the bilge pump and the hole where the water comes out? Kept forgetting to see what rpm it hits when the shaft seems to be slipping... Ohh and there was a plastic bag wrapped around the shaft and some braid fishing line, but after taking that off the slipping was still happening...

2nd and 3rd rides on the 255 was better. seems like it does around 70mph at 8150rmp. speedo is down for some reason. steering is a little crooked, I guess I need to adjust it. Is there a manual for these things? I have no idea how to adjust the steering or anything except for engine maintenance.

I'm guessing I need to remove the bucket then the pump? The wear ring is the ring around the impeller(between the intake grate and the exhaust)? It looks like the wear rings are both metal not plastic, some round scratch marks but not torn apart or anything...

Got stuck on sand on the 255 (saw that I was in 1-2 foot of water so I stopped), intake got clogged up with seaweed/grass/whatever. Engine got a little overheated while I was trying to figure out what was going on. I pulled the seaweed/grass out and then everything seemed fine until I hit WOT and the engine went crazy knocking and then died. Would barely run and was dead most times when trying to start it. Barely made it to the ramp. Tried to flush the system but would only crank and it was already dark out. Next day, saw that one of the coils popped off the spark plug, changed all 3 spark plugs and now it seems to be back to normal. Intake was clear too, no evident damage to impeller or anything. Will take it out tomorrow or Wednesday and see. Oil was 1+ quart short when I checked after changing plugs....

These jet skis are not good for choppy water, keep getting splashed in my face, ridiculous. What type of hull are these, what hull is best for choppy waters?

rxp Sux in choppy water, at least the older ones... the newer models i've been told are better.

RXT is much better in chop, for all years.

Since I ride in heavy chop a good 1/3 of my rides, I didn't even consider the RXP version.

if you find out your in 1-2 feet of water, the best thing you can do is keep going, stay on plane, once you stop, you generally are going to get stuck. I ride in 1-2 feet more often than I should and rule #1 is "Stay on plane"

I didnt have a choice. As I was approaching the most narrow part of that channel I could tell there was less than 6" of water ahead. I wasnt too sure how far I had to go until I would clear all the shallow points.. if i would have gotten stuck, it would have been at least 2 hours before water levels came back up to where I could get out, that would mean I would be there into the night.

It was pretty brutal in the chop, hudson river was the worst with all the wakes from the large ships, had to head back. Are there some things i can adjust to make it a little better? A different ride plate or can I adjust the angle of the sponsons?

I got the 255 fixed. One of the clamps for the exhaust snapped off. I guess the pressure was too high when it was overheating when I got all that seaweed stuck in the intake. Its back to 'normal' now. Actually with the new spark plugs it hits 8200rpm.

I took the 255 out on water after changing the plugs and it would keep bogging down and dying. but then back on the trailer once started it was fine. I took it out on water again, same thing, bogging and dying. took the seat off, and tried with seat off, it was running. noticed water coming in, it was the exhaust hose with clamp broken and in the bottom of the hull. Took clamp from 215, pushed exhaust back and then into rubber hose and got it back in, and clamped.

Anyone?

I am going to switch the pumps and impellers between them. The rxpx had a solas 14/19 and the rxp had a solas 15/21... Just need to get that wear ring out of the rxpx pump.. i forgot it in the freezer overnight, oops. Maybe it will just crack and all i would have to do is pull out the pieces, lol.
