Hello

I need some advice. I am looking at buying from an individual a 2007 Seadoo GTI that is cosmetically in fair to average condition but the motor is locked up. He says that he opened it up that from what he can initially see it has 3 rocker arms broken and jammed. Not sure about other damage I guess without tearing into it.

I am not a mechanic by trade but have the capability with patience to do most anything. However I know absolutely nothing about this motor and if it is complex or simple. Can it be rebuilt with ease.

What do you recommend and what value would you put on this 2007 GTI with a bad motor and on a single trailer in fair condition??

Thanks!

The 4-tech engine is very similar to a regular automotive engine in that it is a 4-cycle engine.

The older skis have a 2-stroke which are MUCH easier to service as well as being considerably cheaper to repair and or replace.

2004 to mid 2006 the 4-tech had an exhaust valve issue. The 2007 engine did not have the same valves. If once you have it, you can prove there is some top end damage ONLY, then I would repair the damage. If it is anything deeper such as crank, rod or piston concerns, then I would purchase a rebuilt ready to go block and install that.

Unless you get extremely lucky, this will not be a cheap event. You can spend 2 to 4 grand on a complete ready to go engine depending on what you have.

Kind of sounds like a broken cam chain. This often effs up a lot of stuff. Without knowing for sure, you have to assume the engine is totally trashed.

As it sits, it is only worth money for parts. They are not a really high value ski to start, so it is probably worth only $750 to $ 1,000 as it sits.
