Bought a pair of seadoos last year and still learning a few things as i get them ready for the season. I have a 98 GSX lt 951 and a 01 xp lt 951. Both have gotten all new fuel lines, filters and plugs but the GSX has always been noticably quicker then the xp to the point that the xp feels like a dog after riding the GSX. I know the gsx's are supposed to be a little faster because of the more flat bottom hull but should it be that noticeable? Not that the XP feels powerless its just noticeably slower. gsx has 70 original hours on it and the xp has had a new top end supposably.

My 01 XP is the main machine I ride and its pretty sick for cutting hard, but at slower speeds it does like to dig the nose into the water and submarine on its side at times. I usually drive it out with more throttle but just wondering how much water they take in while submarining like that and if its reccomended to avoid doing that.

Do you guys use bow loop straps or just steel hooks on your trailer winches and what do you reccomend?

yes, the gsxl will definitely accelerate a little harder and you mentioned the hull design which is a big part but it is also heavier, more than 50 lbs heavier. If you get an aftermarket prop for the xpl, you can get similar acceleration but you may lose a little on the top end but the gsxl is always going to win that battle as well.

if you think it is slower than it should be, you should check your compression, especially if someone said they it has a new top end. xpls are known for water injestion and it will start by you'll hearing it tick, then tick louder til it sounds like a knock all the while the compression is starting to go down a little and the cylinder wall is scoring.

I prefer strap loops just so it doesn't scratch the ski but either will work

alright great, I was actually looking into ordering a skat-trak for the xp if not both but didnt want to if there was another factor as to why it was so much slower. I will probably check compression here just to see also. Do you reccomend upgrading the gsx prop for an even better bottom end kick? I'm not real concerned with top end more with pulling hard at lower speeds.

Yep to everything he said.

One other thought... I have read more than one account from engine builders that they have noticed variations in piston crown heights, and that the quash gap can be off. In turn... making a race engine have a sluggish mid and bottom. Since you have a new top end... you may want to check that.

I run the suggested SolasConcord in my '02 XP and love it. I never had the factory impeller in it, but it pulls crazy hard, zooms to 7,000 RPM instantly, and topped out at an average of 65.5 after averging up and down stream w/GPS.

‎6/7/2011 85 degrees: XP upstream: 63.1 MPH | downstream: 67.9 | Average 65.5 on ¾ tank of fuel.

GTX: 54 MPH upstream and 55.6 downstream | Average: 54.8 GPS speedometer.

(the GTX has factory impeller, and I believe the wear ring is shot)

(Solas Concord and new wear ring coming this week for the GTX).
