It looks like where I get my XPS-II oil from has it almost $12-15/gallon cheaper in the winter... should I buy 4 gallons now for summer, or does it 'expire'? I'm getting it sits on their shelves all winter... so what's the diff? I can save almost $50 here...

Get it and save it till you need it. Just give it a shake now and then to keep the additives mixed up properly, as some separating may occur from setting. The oil sets on the warehouse shelfs for a long time.

$34/gallon + $10 shipping to me = $44/gallon.

$55/gallon + tax at the local shop... $59.00

so, here I don't have to drive 1.5 hrs, AND i save $7.00.

It ships from Delaware UPS, so I usually get it 1-2 days.

I'll call Monday and order 4 gallons, sometimes they cut me a break on shipping when I order a lot...

Anyone getting it anywhere else cheaper?!

I'm near Harrisburg, PA.

Thats a good deal. I may have to order some. I usually use the Quicksilver, but at 3 bucks a gallon more i might do this.

I just checked out the link you posted for shorts marine. For 3 gallons it comes out to $40.88 per gallon. A little cheaper, and every dollar counts.

I am going to try 4 or 5 gallons and see if the price drops more.

LOL...

OK, so here is what I came up with for Shorts Marine. Cost is $33.97 p/gal.

With shipping...
2 Gallons - $40.40 p/gal
3 Gallons - $40.88 p/gal
4 Gallons - $42.80 p/gal
5 Gallons - $40.88 p/gal
6 Gallons - $40.54 p/gal

As you can see, the added shipping cost fluctuates the total cost kinda strangely depending on how many you order. If I wanted 4 gallons, I could place two separate orders for 2 and save over $11.

Wow thats cheap. Ive been paying 42 something for quicksilver at wal mart. I'm gonna order the OEM bimini ffrom JM over the winter. Might get some oil while im at it. They usually have great prices on all sea doo stuff.

Shipping

Shipping to Harrisburg, PA

1: $10.85 shipping ($10.85 each)
2: $12.21 shipping ($6.11 each)
3: $19.18 shipping ($6.40 each)
4: $31.03 shipping ($7.76 each)

Yes, looks like 2 at a time is the way to go!
Thanks for checking it out!

I wouldn't see me needed 5 or 6 GALLONS at a time... I only have 2 skis... for now ;)

I suspect winter demand has lowered the price, although cheaper than anywhere else I get it, it does go to $45 I think in the middle of summer...

We should have a sticky or forum sponsor who gets forum members the cheapest (REAL) sea-doo oils... so no matter what day it is, hop on here and find where to get your oil... doing it for all parts would be a pita, but I bet 90% of us here use this oil...

If you can find Mystik JT-4 Snow Mobile/PWC oil in your area it sells for $20/gal.

It's API-TC low ash fully synthetic, same as BRP's XP-S.

Same quality oil, ALOT less $$$$.

Academy Sports carries it (PWC)
Farm & Fleet carries it (Snow Mobile)
Rural King carries it (PWC)

I have contacted Mystik and they advised me that the JT-4 labeled for Snow Mobile is the exact same product as the JT-4 labeled for PWC, they use different labeling for target marketing only. So you can buy either label that's available.

The Mystik product line is pretty new, so even if it's not available right now, it may be over the next year.

I switched from the XP-S to the Mystik JT-4 at the end of this season. The only way I'll ever switch back to XP-S is if I could get it for $25/gal or less.

You can order the Mystik JT-4 from Mystik directly, but with shipping it turns out to about $30/gal.

I've run since '93 on the real sea-doo oil, and never had an oil related problem... But this isn't the thread for oil v. oil... only if oil expires and cheap prices...

that's a can of worms for another thread :)

The number of 'oil related problems/failures' on seadoo's can probably be counted in the hundreds vs the hundreds of thousands of seadoo units out there, and the number of actual problems/failures caused by a brand of oil can probably be counted in 1 hand, if ANY exsist..

That said, BRP even says you can use any oil as long as it's "API-TC rated low ash fully synthetic", which Mystik JT-4 is. So unless you like just throwing money away, there's no real reason not to run a MUCH cheaper comparable oil..

As you said, this thread was to establish if oil expires. That has already been established. Then it turned into "Cheapest price(s)", which is why I posted about Mystik JT-4.

On topic here; has anyone found XPS Full Synthetic cheaper than we have listed it?

On other forums we do group buys... if we order say 100 gallons / 20 people... or 25 people... can we get it cheaper?

I ordered jet ski oil from Shorts this morning, I already have a tracking #. Seriously... emails are 2.5 hrs apart.

Nice..That was quick.

I am debating between Mystik and XPS for next year. The XPS is $10 more ($40 per gallon). I plan to have a second ski so, I will be doubling up my oil use for next year.

If you ate a Big Mac meal every day and it cost $10/day from McDonnalds, then across the street opened up a new fast food joint that was called MrDonnalds and sold the exact same food (Same look, same taste, etc) the only difference was their "Big Mac" only cost you $6/Day and came in a plane white box instead. Which would you buy?

Seriously, Mystik and XPS the only difference is the packaging and the color, otherwise it's the same exact rating/quality/etc. Why pay more? Pay less and ride more!

I get what you are saying, but it's not savings per day, it would be savings per year. And $50-$70 per year is not gonna break my bank.

Mystik is obviously going to self-promote and say they are great, but they are new and the verdict is not out yet. At least not to me. Living in the NorthEast, however, I have all winter to form my opinion.

Actually, especially compared to the OEM's Mystik does very little 'self-promoting", The OEM's spend millions to convince all their customers that they MUST buy the OEM product.

Mystik basically says "Hey Guys, we got this product that's 1/2 the price of theirs, just so you know our product is the same here's the internationally recognized quality rating".

Run what you feel comfortable with, I'm just trying to help people see threw the OEM's marketing/brainwashing and save some money.

Mystik is owned by Citgo, which is in no way "new". The Mystik name is being used on Citgo's higher performance oil products.

Remember there are only a small handfull of oil manufactures yet there are 100's if not 1000's of oil "Brands" out there, including BRP'S XPS, remember BRP doesn't manufacture oil..

Anyway, in the end It really doesn't matter to me what you run, it's your equiptment, run what you like! But I don't like people that have been brainwashed by the OEM's going around telling everyone they will blow up their engine, or get less life out of their engine by running another brand of oil. That is simpily and totally BS. But if you like XPS because of the pretty honey color of the oil, or the cool yellow bottle because it matches your paint job, or whatever reason and you don't mind spending $70/yr (for you) more on it and that's what makes you happy and enjoy your seadoo more, then that's what it is all about!

You might pay more for XPS and own a Vizio TV, and I might pay less for Mystik and own a Samsung TV. It's what makes you happy!

Well, I am not brainwashed, nor perhaps is SabrTooth... I trust AMSOIL, I trust Quicksilver, and XPS. I just learned about Mystik. I am not going to run out and get it just because.

And, most importantly, I don't know of one local seller of Mystik, but I do know quite a few that sell XPS and in a pinch, if I run out, I know I am not shore-bound until it arrives via shipping.

Yeah, that is a large chunk of BRP's (and all other OEM's) advertising/marketing, that their OEM brand oil is more available at all the marina's and dealers then other brands.

For many that is true, for some it's not. For some there is no "Local" dealer.

I understand that Mystik is a new name so many wont trust it, I was the same untill I found out that Mystik is just Citgo's Higher end products. Citgo's name goes back ALOT further then SeaDoo's or BRP's name.

The big reason I am pushing Mystik over AMSOIL or Mercury/Quicksilver is because AMSOIL and Mercury/Quicksilver are typically about $38/gal, XPS can be had for about $40/Gal. For $2/Gal, I would go with XPS every time, if for nothing else because of the reason you mentioned, It's available when/where you need it. But for $20-$30+/Gal more, I'll go with Mystik and carry enough with me that I'll never be "Shore-bound" because of not having oil. I carry 3-4 gal with me in my trailer box at all times.

Oil Use

So, i'm sitting here thinking about the $80 I spent for 2 gallons and thinking... well, how do I know how many I need?

So, since I use MINT (free, it rocks, use it, www.mint.com)

so I hit 'transactions' typed; 'shorts'... 3 show up

$51, $51, $56

looks like I bought 3 x 1 gallons last summer.

then 'kawi'

bought 1 gallon local $54

so, 4 gallons, for 2 ski's that were also broken for 2-3 weeks...

so, i'm thinking 6 gallons for this summer, now that both are 100% :)

so... at the most I paid $54 local for this vs $40 online...

6 gallons, I save 14 * 6 = $84.00

not bad!

Anyway, I've used mint.com for 3 years now... I love it. I buy everything plastic and track the hell out of every penny!

This thread was about if XPS oil expires or not.

Maybe you can make a new thread if you want to keep trying to get buyers for Mystik?

It seems like every oil thread here is turning into "Mystik is better, buy it"....

Definately does not expire!

There is a massive SKI-DOO dealer north of me, every year before snowmobile season they sell the BRP Mineral and Synthetic at cost to open the snowmobile season $22 for 4L (big dirty party too!) Same stuff that goes into our boats. They have one of those 30ft trailers full of the stuff. I was up there not too long ago to get parts for my boat and they still had about 10 cases left over from last year. I took two of them and the brp tech explained to me that if it expired it would be printed on the jug. Just information from a trusted source so I figured I add to post.
