1999 XP, not running good at all. 10 mph max

PLEASE SCROLL DOWN TO SEE THE UPDATED INFO. THOUGHT I WOULD KEEP IT ON THE SAME THREAD.

I currently own a 1999 XP limited.

My problem is that on any given day my PWC is going through roughly 30 gallons of gas which really does not seem right. Especially since my buddy just bought a 2003 Sea Doo (not sure what model) and he only went through a half a tank of gas in a day.

Also the jet ski only goes roughly 35 mph max. The last time I was on the water I was out there for a while and the gas tank was running low. While the tank was low on gas I was cruising at about 35 mph and the jet ski suddenly threw me back and started going 55-60 mph. When I filled it back up it went back to 35 mph max.

I have looked through the operator's guide with no luck.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Not quite on the reserve tank.

I will have to check the fuel lines. I believe they are the orginal ones.

In Ridgecrest, CA about 1 1/2 hours north of Victorville

I've only had my 96 xp for about a month and after the first full weekend of use I thought for sure there was a leak somewhere in the fuel system. Seemed like every time it came back to the dock it needed gas. So I checked everything over for leaks and found none. Then I went to the service manual and under the specs page I found:

FUEL CAPACITY 9 GALLONS-AVERAGE CRUISING TIME AT WOT-37 MINUTES!!!

I now own 4 five gallon jugs instead of 1 and I make sure they are all full when I head to the lake. These things can be thirsty little machines I have found, but the fun factor makes all worth it.

yup........:auto:

If there was a leak, you'd notice it in the performance. The fuel smell/vapors, would choke out the fresh air, and it'll run like crap.

Updated info, so I am not to worried about the fuel anymore since the jet ski is not running properly. I changed out the spark plugs it ran OK (little sluggish) for about 5 minutes then it maxes out at between 2k - 3k rpm and 10mph. I pulled off some of the fuel lines and they look fine the fuel is clear and no sign of slugg.

The only thing that I did between the time it was running good to this is changing the spark plugs. The gap on the spark plugs is good.

I also pulled the RAVE valves on the engine. Figured it was the easiest way to see what kind of condition the inside looked like. The RAVE valves looked like they were coated with oil and had carbon on them. Dont know if that is normal or not. That is why I pulled both.

Go figure the Jet Ski brakes down when I start vacation. Just my luck

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Check the compression first! If it isgood then change the lines! Your lines may look clean, but I guarantee the filters inside the carbs and the fuel selector valve tell a different story! If u want to finish the season, pull the carbs and clean them! Pull the selector and clean! Plan on an entire fuel system overhaul this winter!

OK did the compression test. The front cylinder was at 123 psi and the rear was at 119psi. I cannot find what the compression should be. Does anyone know off the top of their head?

It won't be long before that thing is ready for a top end rebuild! Could explain your gas guzzling! I've got the same motor in my GTX LTD, and I don't use near that much gas!

For now I'd clean the carbs! Make sure the oil pump is working! Drive it like u stole it the rest of the season, and think about that rebuild! I'd mos def redo the entire fuel system this winter!
