Oil block off kit

So my wife and I recently purchased a clean 96 XP and a 1999 SPX. I haven’t been around them for a long time. After doing some reading I found that people seem to be adding oil block off kits. Is this advised? Also the SPX was having a problem that mimicked a dirty carb. I cleaned the Rave Valves, siphoned the gas, put in non ethanol gas, changed the fuel filter, poured in the Sea Doo carb cleaner. It is weird but before I did that the boat didn’t want to plane. After doing all that it doesn’t want idle but will jump up and plain out. Any ideas? The 96 XP started to squeal and the engine cut off. But started back up so slowly took it back to the launch. I ordered a jet pump rebuild kit and a driveline rebuild kit. Is there anything else I should look for before rebuilding those and dropping back into the water.

No don’t block off the oil injection

Make sure you a running API-TC full synthetic oil. Replace the inline oil filter and replace the small 3/32” oil lines from the oil pump to the intake manifold.

Carbs need to be rebuilt with genuine Mikuni parts following the Carb Rebuild Thread sticky. Replace any gray fuel lines.

Sounds like your carbs don't like the low and intermediate ranges. Did you reset the carb air screws when you. Check the air screws and determine if they are set correctly. Rebuilding the carbs isn't a bad idea. You can put some premix in the fuel in addition to the oil pump if you think you have a problem. That is common to do on engine break-in. I run 100:1 premix in addition to the injection pump. The carbs seem to like it.

Squeaking can be the water seal but you definitely need to find the source. Good Luck !

Thank you everyone. I haven’t rebuilt carbs before but it’s supposed to rain the next several days. So I figure I would give it a shot. When you run 100:1 do you use the Sea Doo oil to pre-mix? I ordered two Mikuni Kits carb kits also?hoping it goes well!

Make sure you get new needles and seats too. And I can’t stress this enough, only Genuine Mikuni, nothing else.
