1999 SPX question

So I have recently found a 99 spx that has been rebuilt and the guy has added performance parts to it. The following is a list of mods and parts replaced that were installed. The question I have is how much $$ was spent on mods and parts? He said everything was done by a seadoo mechanic.

"Seasense" 600GPH electric bilge with separate power toggle switch
Original Equipment (OE) sponsons. removed beachhouse sponsons
"pro X" pistons
"hot rod" crank
Worx scoop intake grate
counter balancer
full gasket set as needed (head, carb, etc )
top end bearings
rear used brass pump (remove OE plastic pump) which included wear ring
steering nozzle and linkages (used)
replace filters for *fuel, oil and all lines all inclusive
new power trim module (OE )
new seadoo prop (OE)
Deka maintainence free battery
new Br8ES Ngk plugs
newer seat cover* - zero cuts or marks

Well.... it's kind of irrelevant.

1) The pistons, crank, gaskets, bearings are all part of a rebuild. Yes... the Hot-Rods crank is a little more... but it's not a "Performance" part on it's own.

2) What's a counter balance for?

3) Spark plugs?? Really? These get changed a few times a year, and they are $3 each

4) Seat cover. Here again... not a mod, and if the stock one was beat up... then the price of the ski would be lower.

5) OE Sponsons aren't a Mod. So... those are free.

6) OE impeller. Dime a dozen. I have 3 sitting in my shop if you need one. It's free too.

7) A bronze pump is worth $75~$100 in good shape. BUT... it's not a performance mod. So... I'd say the stock pump was messed up, and it's just a replacement.

8)VTS (Trim) here again... if it's not working... the price of the ski drops. (not a mod)

9) The only real mods I see here are the Bilge pump ($50) and the scoop Grate. ($150 new) The new battery is just a plus, but I've bought skis with good batteries before.

A 99 SPX with an 800 engine, in good condition is worth about $2500 regardless of the "mods". I know up in Canada... prices are higher... but it is winter time.

Thanks for the info. I believe he has it over priced. I found another one that is stock for a grand less but needs hull work nothing major no holes but would require patch kit

Personally, other than being the last model with the X4 hull, I've never understood what makes the 99SPX so special. I consider (not biased or anything), the 95XP 800 the best X4 ski, it has the stepped seat and the pump extension and the single gauge hood.

I agree with Lou here on the XP800 thing. I think what makes the 99 special is low production #'s and more "adult" graphics.

yes, the colors, and decals make the 99 spx a much better looking ski, i think the pink decals are soooo ugly.

that a nice description on a ski, no real shortcuts taken, i'd price it around 2,000 here in FL, 2200 tops.

Adult graphics??? How many of us on this forum are adults? I will admit I hated the pink hull and the pink graphics when I first got the ski, but it kinda grows on you. Besides, my wife says I'm the King of bad taste.

Lol my wife just wishes I would grow up!

My fave is the 98 spx out of all of them, but a mint unmolested 95xp800 is pretty sweet too. i used to hate the pink, but now the nonfaded super nice ones i have a soft spot for.

They all look good once you strip off the ugly graphics and paint all the pink and purple trim. The head designer at seadoo must have been a chick in the mid 90s

I like that old stuff. You can't argue with the sales success of that era. Getting a hot chick to like it only makes a fella dive in twice as fast.

The color scheme had nothing to do with seadoo sales in the mid 90s, their competitions body styles were hideous, and the difference between them and now is the seadoos back then were what $5000 for the xp and now the rxp $15000. I know there is inflation but you can buy a boat or a seadoo for the same price now.

Dont get me wrong i can see potential in almost any seadoo, i just hate the pink/purple on everything, that is the first thing to go on all the ones i get. I know back then everything was using those colors, but to me they made them look like toddlers toys but after 96 things changed drasticly and for the better.

Well maybe it was just the kid in me. I used to dream about those pink and purple personal water toys. I agree that some of them are period pieces but I'm glad it happened. The first couple years of Seadoo graphics were totally under control though. They were leading the charge back then and the other manufactures were always playing catch up. When they came out with those toddler colors they were greeted with open wallets(and easy flowing credit).
