Hey i picked up this 97 gsx 800 a few weeks ago from a dealer that said he could not figure out why it would not start. Paid 300 bucks for it and it looks brand new only 55 hours on it total original engine and everything. Brought it home and put a ignition coil on it which was 40 bucks and boom fires right up. Took it out yesterday and it seems to have a prob with it it hesitates sometimes when i gun it and if i run full throttle for a while it wnts to bog down. It still has the grey tempo lines so im gonna change them out today and clean carbs but for 300 bucks i cant go wrong. cant think of anything else to do but if you have any suggestions let me know. The raves seem to be set all the way in on it so i think they are fine but JEEEEZZZ this thing flies when it does open up all the way.

Good price.

Before trying to troubleshoot anything... you know what to do. Change the fuel lines, clean the filter, select valve, and the carbs. (They need a full disassembly, and cleaning) If you are careful, and don't rip the gaskets... you won't need to buy rebuild kits.

Yeah i figured they would need a cleaning being that i dont know exactly how long it sat there and the moron mechanic there who dosent seem to know anything about seadoo's said he cant remember.thanks for the quick reply i also was thinking that it could possibly be some bad gas i tried to get all of it out but if you have evr attempted it you know how diff. it is. Any idea what the raves should be set at for maximum performance.

Great price indeed. I wish I could come across deals like that.

Anyways the raves setting is all in what you are looking for. It is not going to affect your speed or RPMs, just where you have the most torque. Raves all the way in gives better response in the lower RPMs. Raves adjusted out level with the top of the black cap gives better response on the upper RPMs. At least, that is what I have learned. I have also recently read that the water regulator should be adjusted opposite of how you have the exhaust raves set.
