don't put the lanyard on, or push the start button. If the MPEM turns on... and the charger gives a voltage spike when the load changs... yes... it can damage it.
With that said... I charge my skis all the time without disconnecting the battery... but I'm the only one in the house who messes with them.
I don't think I would go over 1.5a, I use a Battery Tender jr. .75a, and I also have an Optimate .8a.

As long as were talking about it, make sure you buy a charger /maintainer that has float mode. I have seen supposed maintainers that never stop producing 13+ volts. They will literately boil your battery away with continued use. There are some really crappy ones out there. I have bought both types, & learned the hard way by replacing batteries.![]()
