Hi.

Basically I made the mistake of letting my friend drive the seadoo around the lake. He it a stump now there's a 11" long by 1" wide gash in the hull. Basically the white portion of the hull has come off and the fiberglass is visible. Does this effect the integrity of the hull at all?

thanks.

Uhm...yeah....it does.

Get it repaired and gel coated before it hits the water again.

Or...what the hell. Hit the lake now and let the water pressure at speed against the hull, peel the rest of it like an orange.

Your call.

fix it now or you'll be sorry, last year I parted out an 06 GTI that the customer said had only a small area of the gel coat missing from hitting a dock post and well, 2 months later, half of the gel coat on the bottom ski was gone, let in water and sank it. he turned a $6k machine into a $600 purchase for me and I think I paid too much.

West System Epoxy repair is all you need, do a youtube search and watch the videos , not difficult to do.

I'm new to this, so somebody stop me if I'm giving out bad information. My '03 GTX had an 8" long scratch throught the plastic, showing the fiberglass underneath. I used a product called "MarineTex" (I think that's right). I found it very easy to use and so far it is holding up well and I'm happy with the results. Also keep in mind, that I'm not all that good at fixing stuff and I thought this was a pretty easy repair.

Marine Tex is good as well and is also an epoxy system, great for quick fixes and if you're not too concerned about the final look. West System is a more complete repair with more options and can gelcoat over the top of it and you'll never see the repair, but fairly pricey.
