05 rxp - no beeps with lanyard connected, no start, nothing. help!

I've got a 2005 rxp. I lauched it in the lake today, was running perfect for a good 30 min or so. i turned it off, hopped off to let my buddy ride it. I left the key on the post. It was beeping like normal and everything seemed fine, he got on, pushed the start button and nothing. i took the key off then put it back on, and its different now. usually the gauges all come on and the needles move to let you know the key is on and it usually beeps twice. now when i put the key on there will be nothing for about 5 seconds, then it just says "sea-doo" and thats it, no beeps, no movement. when i pull the key out, the seadoo message stays on for about 5 seconds then goes away. i thought it might be the key went bad, but learner key does the same thing. i took the compartment out in the front and i realized right when i touch the key lightly onto the post, i hear a very faint click sound, but dont know what that means. any ideas?

Do you get 2 beeps and start when you put the DESS lanyard on it? Or is it just the way the guages act that is bothering you? If your not getting beeps or a start remove the battery and give it a charge. Be sure all the wire connections are good and clean including battery wires and groung going to the starter area.

when i put either key in, get nothing but a "seadoo" .. no beeps, no starting, nothing. the battery is good, no problem there. like i said i hear a slight click when i touch the key to the post, could this be some sort of solenoid or fuse problem?

I got this same problem today on my 05 rxp..before i left the house i cranked the ski just to make sure the battery was good. Put the ski in the water it fired right up, got out and blasted down the channel ski ran good as always and then i turned it off to talk to my buddy. once again started up like a champ and then shut it off once more cause he was saying something else. When i plugged my lanyard back in it didnt do anything, no beeps or gauges, but it said "sea-doo" on the screen. after getting home i checked the fuses, charged the battery, and cleaned my connections. every once in awhile ill get it to beep and the guages will work like normal when you plug a lanyard in. I try to hit the start button and it clicks once and the screen goes blank, then all it does when i try the lanyard again is say "sea-doo". No codes show up so im not clueless as its probably something in the electrical. If anyone has any ideas they would be greatly appreciated. Thanks -Chris

Both you guys need to check the wires on the battery and the ground. If the ground is corroded it won't get a full power connection and do as you both say. The wire might look ok, but be corroded inside the connector on the end. If you have to cut the wire and add a new connector.

if it helps any, i just checked the ground (on the starter i believe? that comes from the battery) and i loosened it and when i plug the key in,(all while the wire is loose), it beeps and gauges come on and work every time, but i got 2 codes one of the times i tried, p1517 which is compass code..and it doesnt have that so thats irrelevant, and p1607 which is "Damaged MPEM". Now is this the problem or is it just saying that because i loosened the wire? also when i fiddle with the wire as the key is in the vts on the screen goes crazy up and down, and the gas guage will disappear and come back, which im guessing just because that wire is loose. hope this helps you gurus to identify the problem. thanks -Chris

You shouldn't allow the wire to be loose while checking the connection, it could cause problems from the on and off surge. Shut off eveything and connect the wire and see where you are.

ok just removed each of the 3 wires and cleaned their connection with a wire brush, tightened them all back down and its back to doing nothing but showing "sea-doo"..getting to those things is a pita on the arms. are there any other grounds hiding somewhere i should check? or what should my next step be, because im lostt

Be sure the battery is fully charged. If in doubt have it checked for any bad cells at like Auto Zone for free. It could show full charged and not have the amps to power up the seadoo. Check all the fuses too. Use a mult meter to be sure your getting a full 12 volts to the mpem and passing through the ground back to the battery. I have see wire ends look brand new but when you cut the ends off they are corroded inside and not delivering a good connection. The system needs 12 volts in a cycle to operate.

the battery is brand new barely 2 months old.. i dont understand is that it started up fine 30 seconds before is started doing this. ive checked all the fuses they all checked out okay. ill try the multimeter tomorrow if i get some time. might call a local shop my buddy goes to and see if that have any idea what it could be. thanks again

Module plugs....?

Check your plugs on the module and in between. On your air induction, you should see the ECU (part #5) mounted to it. Seeing the "Seadoo" light up on the info center says your lanyard is being picked up but you do not have a full circuit. This is usually caused by fun riding, jumping waves and just having a good time.

Look through all your electrical sensor and circuits and make sure you did not have a plug come un-done, starting with your ECU on the air intake.:cheers:

yeah still no progress with me, ive been really busy i havent had much time to look at it. ive checked fuses, and i still hear that little click every time the key touches the post, it must be some sort of relay or solenoid. battery is definately good.

well it turn out being my battery..lol.:ack: on my charger it said i had a full charge and all but i guess it has bad cells or something..kinda odd for a not even 3 month old battery, ill be returning it and getting a new one. and it was odd that it started up with not problem 2 minutes before, but whatever glad thats what the problem was. so sanford you might wanna try getting your battery tested or trying a different one and hopefully that solves your problem too.
