Guys:
I bought this SD this past September. One thing that seems odd to me is the vent piping in the forward storage bay.

The vent that connects to the port side cowling vent was only partially in and the zip tie had broken. So I thought I would reattach this - how hard could that be.

The manual has no real good image as to how these are supposed to be attached. Looking at them, seems convoluted. The starboard vent attached to the body crosses over the top of the fuel tank and is pressing against the main fuel line on the top of the fuel pump. It is attached via zip tie to an epoxied anchor point on the port side bottom of the storage area - by the MPEM. The port vent then crisscrosses over that vent pipe and was attached to the bottom of the starboard side. Here is a photo:

It sure does not seem logical, but does anyone know if this is correct and how is it supposed to be?

I'm gonna say if you suspect there's a problem then there probably is. But, I'm not familiar enough with the detail of that particular model to comment further so BUMPing your thread.

Generally speaking for most marine craft the bilge vent which exits the hull (this one should tend to have a negative pressure as the vessel is moving in forward direction) should be down low in the hull and the entrance for bilge ventilation air should be up higher near the gunwale.

The reason is, gasoline vapors are heavier than air thus tend to collect in the bottom of the bilge. By having the exit point ducted to near the bottom of the bilge(slightly higher than bilge pump level) those vapors are removed more effectively.

Hopefully that makes sense, and someone more familiar with this particular model can advise further.

Thanx, Sportster, it does make sense. The starboard vent exits the hull above the right footwell; the side of the body. The port side, which is the one that came loose, exits vertically at the cowling that is covered up by the forward hatch. Probably 8 -10 inches higher than the side vent. Both were zip tied to the bottom of the hull. The crisscrossing is what seems odd. I can't imagine that passing over the top of the fuel pump, actually deflecting the fuel line ( the gray vertical line in the 1st photo), would be intentional.

Thanks, I do have the drawing and they only show a straight vent pipe hanging there. Not what is there.

The one that broke off (zip tie broke) is at a 45 degree so it doesn't seem to fit - I don't see how it ever fit. Hopefully someone can help.

Anyone have ideas on how I figure out how these vents should be plumbed? Is there a way to contact SeaDoo?

not sure if this would help but like you said the port crosses to starboard side and visa versa, when all said and done the opening of the vent tubes at the bottom should face each other if you know what i mean. thats how it is on the gsx rfi and pretty sure it's the same on the gtx.

Jammin... Hanks, but they never did face each other. Not exactly. Here is another photo where you can see the zip tie on the hull right in front of the fuel tank. They kinda point to the bottom of the hull.

Is the cross cross of the vent tubes correct? If so, then I need to figure out how to wrestle the vent end back into its rubber "gasket" that fits in the body.

i see you have zip ties about 8" up front the tube end, mine only have the zip ties on the end the bottom of hull about an inch from the bottom and thats it. in other words the zip tie you have on there now is preventing you from zip tie-ing it to the bottom of the hull. again the gtx may be different but give er a shot as i'm pretty sure it would be the same as the gsx

Its 8" away cuz the thing fell out of the other end. Its supposed to be in that zip tie. If I do that, the other end is at 45 degrees and will not fit into the body. Maybe heat it up and make it more pliable? I take it then that they should cross cross. Does your side vent pass over the fuel pump?

Oh wait ... Are you talking about the zip ties on the vent pipe itself? They are there to keep the bend in place. They came that way.

I have the 01 GTX DI (not RFI), but they may be similar. Yes, the two pipes have zip ties to hold them in the shapes they need, and they are different, so they don't swap.
Here is a pic of mine, that may help.

as in the picture you can see that the hoses criss cross above the fuel pump. these a zip tie up high level with the top of the fuel tank to the hull. the another zip tie at the bottom to the hull as you can see in the picture. im pretty sure it is the same for the gtx but not 100%. hopefully someone that owns a gtx will confirm this.

Aha! DooWacka thanks a ton! That is exactly like mine and explains everything. The vent hose that connects to the cowling just below the hood ( port side vent that ties to starboard side inner hull) is curved up at 45 degrees where it should be closer to 90. But I think I can heat up the tube a bit and slide those zip ties a little further down and increase that bend enough to reattach it.

Man, this forum is great! Thanks again!
