OK... looks like I gotta get into this 951. This is my first one so be gentle. :D Flywheel needs to be replaced. How big a pain in the butt is that?? What causes the teeth to break on these things?

I assume you mean the one inside the magneto cover, and not the one on the PTO?

You could technically do it in the hull, but it would be a hassle.

remove engine, remove magneto cover, remove bendix, remove flywheel I believe.

How much time we talkin ?? Is it faster to remove the engine and how do you line this bad boy back up?? I see it has a Lovejoy coupling which you can line up by feel and some feeler gauges. I gotta download a manual for sure.

With all the skis you have now and ones I am sure you will buy, just order the SBT alignment tool. You will wonder why you waited so long.

I have an alignment tool that I purchased used. I don't see how it would work on the XPL but I haven't looked at them very hard yet. :)

The XP 951 and HX are the most critical when it comes to alignment or you will destroy the couplers and driveshaft fingers. You first align the carrier bearing then the engine.

Sounds like a pain. :) I wonder if my tool will work or if I need something specific for the XPL.

I got The WSM brand. Its two poles that either connect together to do the xp hull or only one to do the regular hull.
But this adaptor I'm assuming it slides into the pto of an xp and the shaft slides into that ?

Yes, the one I have is one long solid rod then to do the XPL and HX there is a sleeve that goes over the end and into the alignment bushing on those special PTO's.
