The 98 xpl 950 had quite on us several years ago and we thought it needed a new computer ( $$$) so it sat for about 5 years.
I thought we had put oil in cylinder but unsure. Anyway the issue ( I hope was stator so I replaced it today With help from this board )
Now to the new problem. With everything back together I went to turn it over and it sounds like the starter is hitting hard but not able to crank the engine.
Where do I go from here?
Can i remove intake grate to turn shaft or is there a better way?
Is it likley the engine sezied or shaft? Whats more common.
Any suggestion would be great.
I will stick a scope in cylinder tomorrow to maybe get a better idea of whats happening there.
Thanks

take the spark plugs out and see if you can turn the driveshaft by hand.either grab the coupler just behind the engine,or open the rear compartment and turn it there.

I got it off and im sure it will be a pain to reinstall.
Kept hitting it with starter and noticed it was moving about a 1/4 inch at a time.
A few more and it turned over normal.
Got spark as well so things are looking up.

It runs and sounds good.
Just got to figure out why oil light is on now.
I think it is for tank level and it is quite full.

This is a great thread! A non running ski gets put away years ago, now it gets brought out & everything starts working & running great.

Thats awesome!

Very refreshing, If I read the posts from the bottom & go up, I think that would be more the norm. Ha! :D very unusual to say the least.

Congrats on getting it running.

This thread could have easily gone the other way.

Nice job !!!
