I'm confused about the correct antifreeze to use for protecting my intercooler and exhaust system this winter. I have a Sportster 4tec SCIC so I need to treat the open-loop exhaust cooling system.
Various threads on the forum refer to biodegradable RV / marine antifreeze for winterizing. But there seem to be 2 different products: expensive marine-specific antifreeze, advertised as aluminum-safe and containing rust inhibitors (eg. Starbrite "Sea Safe"); and the cheap RV / plumbing antifreeze most hardware stores sell this time of year.
I've read, however, that these days almost all antifreeze is in fact aluminum-safe. Also I'm not so concerned about rust inhibition since the exhaust system is full of water most of the year anyway, so obviously it's somewhat rust resistant on its own. I just don't want to use a product that will kill any impellers and the like in the exhaust cooling circuit.
Can I use the regular RV antifreeze for this job or should I buy the marine-specific stuff?
