In the past I have made handlebar brackets to make the newer handlebar covers replace the old rubber style pads.

The old pads tend to get moldy and you can never really clean them. We have all been there and try everything to clean them but no matter what you do the results are temporary and you end up with melted rubber all over your hands.

I can have my brackets made up. For me really to even start this I would need to have at least 20 people interested.

I can put togethor a kit where you would get the bracket and the hardware to be able to mount the new style cover.

Here is what would come with the kit.

A machined aluminum bracket
The hardware needed to mount the bracket. All stainless steel of course
I will also included instructions with pictures.

This will cost $50 per kit shipped.

This will not include the cover or pad. You will need to buy them seperately. Minnetonka4me would be a great source for that.

The great thing about these covers is they are paintable.

Here are some pictures where we have already done the modification

would be helpful if we could know what years this converts to which years. i have a couple skis and would be interested

This is for X-4 style skis with rubber handlebar pad, not for the old generation GTX/GTI/GTS.

I get $50 for a complete set of covers and a good center pad. So for $100 and some paint you can mint out a ski.

Not bad considering mint rubber pads are over $100 these days if you can find one. Those BT neoprene covers fade fast too.

JSG, we need to figure out something for the old GTX style...those pads are even worse than the x-4 style.

Hell I spent $100 on a "good" handlebar pad cover for my XP. It ended up being far from "mint". So $100 is more than fair I'd say.

That one wasnt quite as good as it looked huh?

NOPE! Looked good in the ebay ad. Looked far from good when it got to me. Oh well, fortunately I found a mint one someone was selling on PWCtoday and picked that up for hella cheap. I'll sell it on once it starts to warm up to try and recoup some of loss, but sure won't rape someone like I got. Lesson learned, don't buy that stuff from ebay. lol

How much different is the old style gtx/gti/gts bar from the x4 bars? Could one just replace the bars with x4 bars and use your brackets or do they not reach far enough back?

I just looked at a fiche of the old style gtx, this will not work for that. You also just cannot switch handlebars either. The stem would also have to be modified. The whole setup is too different to just simply modify what I have done. It is always possible but the cost would be even higher for that. As of now I have 0 people wanting this. So maybe if these have a good turn out I will come up with something for that.

This is the style pad that it replaces

This is what can go in its place, there are many colors of this style too, purple, blue, black, red, yellow, green, I am sure there are others too.
The actual pad is available in all of those colors too. You can also just paint the cover any color you want.

Did you buy that NOS yellow top? If you did that's redonkulous. I was so eyeing that up but had to keep my composure. It's bad enough 4 boxes showed up on the front porch yesterday, while I was flying out.

I just found out you are selling the bracket!!! I want one if you find some other people interested. I'm tired of being frustrated over the pad and cover sitting in my garage collecting dust.

Nope, that one is like $100 just for the top part. There is alot of yellow complete sets for about $50 though.
The black one on the floor in that same post is the one on my xp. Although it has been painted.

JSG,

The final results look good. I may be interested. Would you mind showing a picture of what we are actually buying for that $50?

Thanks,

Chris

Here is what they will look like, my Future BIL drew it up in cad, wrote the program and cut the prototype with a cnc. All that is left is to check the fitment and then make final adjustments. I think this one is steel but the final product will be aluminum.

So sweet JSG!!

I have TONS of the covers and pads in stock. I have 2 perfect yellow sets, a bunch of black, and also a bunch of faded ones to sell cheap for painting.
